Denver Post Makes Pitch for Richardson as V.P.

By Matthew Frank, 8-04-08

When Barack Obama comes to Denver to accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for president, the Post hopes he will have a “son of the West”—New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson—by his side as his running mate.

In an editorial, the Post writes, “The first test of a vice president is whether he or she is qualified to serve in the top job should the occasion arise. Richardson clearly leads all other Democratic contenders by that standard.” And the piece goes on to explain why.

It concludes:

Richardson’s record not only qualifies him to assume the presidency, it makes him an ideal partner to the visionary and eloquent Obama in the task of running this country. And as a leading figure in a Rocky Mountain West that has emerged as a swing political region, Richardson could do more than any other possible running mate to carry the Democratic ticket to victory in November.

With Obama pushing hard for New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, and Montana’s 22 total electoral votes, that may be true.

Richardson has been sporting a beard for over 6 months. Why not use that for your picture? From the HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/26/richardson-may-endorse-by_n_88518.html?view=print

Here's a picture of Obama and Richardson that would be perfect for their campaign button: http://www.fraterslibertas.com/labels/Bald.html

I just have to say I love this ticket. I am a long term west/southwest resident and there is no "right on" politician next to Obama of course but Richardson's resume is longer and very consistent. I would be so honored to vote for this ticket! Can we do a letter writing or email campaign to Obama, or Caroline?

Obama/Richardson all the way!!!!!

I would really like to vote Obama and Richardson. I lean Obama anyway, but not sure he really understands the West. Putting Richardson on the ticket would assure me that there would be a voice in washington that can speak for the west.

(... sorry Arizona, but in my book you are 'bout as western as Florida.)

I like Richardson but he is too much of a gaffe machine for VP. I would love to see Janet Napolitano as VP candidate. McCain would freak out if he was suddenly losing Arizona.
P.S. I much prefer this picture of Obama and Richardson:
