Missoula may not be a hub of urban culture, but a group of local breakdancers doesn’t seem to notice.
On Thursday nights, the wooden floor of the newly opened Downtown Dance Collective on West Main Street vibrates under the feet of experienced and novice breakdancers. Funky bass lines drift from the studio to the street, luring curious passersby to the large picture window.
New West’s Anne Medley spent an evening with Missoula’s breakdancers and brought back this multimedia glimpse into their world.
[End of article]I know these guys and they are great! When I saw the teaser for this story, I thought "how are they going to write about this?" It's often very difficult to articulate human movement to those that did not witness it. So when I saw that it was a video, I was really impressed to see the breakdancers express themselves through movement (and just seeing it on the video) as opposed to reading how someone (the author) interpreted it. Good work.
