Palin’s Unmarried Daughter Pregnant

By Jonathan Weber, 9-01-08

This one is sure to stir up the morality debate a little further: Republican Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is pregnant, and plans to marry the father. The announcement came in response to persistent blog rumors alleging that Palin's recent baby, born last April 18, is actually her daughter's. Bristol is said to be five months pregnant. Will the religious right's love-fest with Palin come to abrupt end in light of the pre-marital sex, or will it be reinforced by the decision to marry and have the baby? [End of article]

Hypocrisy. Sarah Palin almost scares me as much as Dick Cheney.

Comment By Dave Skinner, 9-01-08

"Hypocrisy" would be an abortion.
Used to be, you stuck it in and it worked as engineered, if not intended, the shotgun was there to make sure the rest of the deal was upheld.
Given how well Mrs. Palin has, um, held up....and politics aside, getting married to that gene string might not be so bad.
Never mind that if the Obama campaign does ANYTHING along this line, then the question of his own legitimacy, as well as that in the "African American Community" comes up. I would rather not have that discussion in a partisan environment, although out-of-wedlock birth rates ARE a, an, um, er, LEGITIMATE sociological matter.

Little bit of whitesupremacy oozing out there, eh, dave?

Comment By Marion, 9-01-08

So Jed, how do you figure that? If an unwed pregnancy of the child of the Veep candidate is fair game, then wouldn't the unwed status of the mother of the other presidential cnadidate be sbject to the same scruitiny?
Make no mistake unwed sex is a real problem, especially for the youngsters, but we have the libs screaming that humans have no control over themselves and must not be taught anything about abstinence, only given birth control or abortions wihtout the parents consent even.
Perhaps this will bring a conclusion to the "free love" that pretty much resulted in a Barack Obama, and save the slaughter of innocent preborns and a reduction of STDs, some of which are fatal.

(Thanks Orange Website of Power)

Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown reports: At a press avail in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama on Palin: "Back off these kinds of stories."

"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor and/or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."

I just hope this does something for the Republican party line on contraception and sex education at the very least.

I don't think Bristol Palin was trying to conceive, this is something that's hard to dispute. Perhaps some honest-to-god education could have prevented this (for Sarah Palin) embarrassing turn of events.

I do find the attempt to cover up everything by saying the child was hers as ridiculously dishonest, which is a trait I would prefer a potential chief executive not to have.

To summarize: Is it really so bad to teach sex education? I'm sure that Sarah wishes she had mentioned the birds, the bees and the condoms to her daughter a bit more firmly.

Comment By Tom, 9-01-08

You've got to respect Obama's choice to step up to the plate and call this off limits.
Jedediah, how in the world were you able to interpret Dave's comment as white supremacy?

Comment By Marion, 9-01-08

Troy, you do not know what you are talking about. Sex education is taught in middle school on up, grammar school in some places. Any girl of any age can come to a family planning clinic that is funded by Title X funds & receive birth control. Free birth control and sex education is everywhere in this country. It is not always effective, kids do not always (often) plan to have sex.
I am a medical care provider that worked providing health care including birth control to young women for many years and I do have a clue what I am talking about. You obviously do not.

What I don't get is the McCain campaign are playing up that she made the "choice" to have a child, when they are on the record as saying there should be no choices. You'd think they would phrase the release to play up that no choice was necessary.

Sounds like she is a "Manchurian Candidate" for the militia movement.
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/09/the_alaska_independence_party.php
"Mr, Carter says that AIP members must "infiltrate" -- his words -- the other two parties and push for the cause of Alaskan independence."
So Palin was a member of a right-wing militia movement that encourages members to drop their party and infiltrate the other parties to advance their agenda. By the way she dropped the AIP a few years ago. It sure would be irresponsible to not investigate this.

I beg your pardon, Marion, but I believe you might be mistaken about the prevalence of public-school sex education in this country.

I refer all of my comments to the fantastic article by Sutton Stokes.

I may not have any idea what I'm talking about, not even the barest shred of an atomic sliver of an idea of what I'm talking about, but I think Stokes does.

In other words they cannot pass out contraceptives in school, right? Thoe services are still available.

Comment By Sutton, 9-02-08

@Marion: um, no, like I said, I think you may be incorrect when you stated: "Sex education is taught in middle school on up, grammar school in some places." You will notice I offered no opinion as to the availability of family-planning services outside the schools. See: http://www.newwest.net/topic/article/is_alaska_an_abstinence_only_state/C564/L564/

For those of you talking about the legitimacy of Barack Obama. Are you are questioning his legitimacy -as in saying he was born outside of marriage? If so, you have it wrong. His mother and father were young, but they were married. His mother ended up being a single parent through the most common means, divorce. So it isn't the same as McCain’s running mates' daughter. The Obama's were a young married couple in college, not high school.

Marian has an opinion on just about everything--usually mistaken...
