And a BIG THANK YOU to Denny for NOT thinking these funds are good for his State. Too bad the GOP lackeys have no free thought left, a health opposition would be beneficial for all of us. Me thinks it is time to kick that one to the curb.

Seems like Denny just hates us folks back here, but with him being the 11th most wealthy Congressperson (estimated 60 million), what the hell does he care. As for me, I'm wondering where the broadband roll out is. I'm coasting along at 21.6Kbps...hang on!

Instead of bashing MT's only rep, which has little influence, we need to be praising MT's two Senator's for a job well done. One thing I would have liked to see earmarked, but couldn't under the circumstances, was funding for Beartooth Pass reconstruction. The Beartooth has been an orphan highway for far too long. Continued lack of responsible attention to this important access to Yellowstone National Park will mean we will all pay a price at some point.

To the above posters:

Who do you think will pay for this? How do you feel about subsidizing the states that haven't managed their budgets? I doubt anyone can tell us what these programs will really do and how many real, sustainable jobs will be created. Thank you Congressman Rehberg for taking a stand.

Lessee now,
800 billion stimulus bill. 300 million Americans. One million Montanans. Tick tick tick, click tick. Montanans are 0.0033 of the total, times 800 billion. Ticky tick tap. Hmmm. Share should be somewhere north of 2.6 billion, eh? And we got 625 million.
Wow, thanks to our POWERFUL Senate delegation. Shorted two billion. You don't suppose those two chumps didn't have to be pandered to for their votes or something?

Comment By Jonathan Weber, 2-16-09

Dave, you also have to figure in the amount in tax cuts, the spending part of the package is only a portion of it. Even with that, and assuming these numbers are accurate, it looks like Montana did get shorted significantly. In fairness though I think you can mainly blame House Democrats (and Republicans) for that.

JW,
Thanks for the clarification. But I was simply being sarcastic. All the smoke and mirrors up to this moment have been too much to take. Am now at the point where I really don't care if we were "shorted" or not because I have no confidence in the legislation at large. We are robbing our grandkids, as usual. For what? Nobody really knows, with this monster over a thousand pages, and not one of our legs, certainly not Max or Jon, read the entire thing before voting.
Sure, they might have jammed in "their" stuff, but that's all the involvement -- "I got mine, so now I'm ready for the check-presentation-media-opportunity" each legislator put into this. A sham, and a danged shame.

Baucus got Weyerhaeuser a $175 million or whatever it was exactly, tax reduction late last year. That turns out to be 25% of what the whole of Montana will get. And, he also got that stimulus amount, or more, for Plum Creek Timber to sell their logged over land to Montana or the Feds...Hey!!! His deal was MORE than Montana will get in the stimulus. This sounds like a mining deal to me. Weyerhaeuser and PCT got the gold and Montana got the shaft.

When will Helena be sending each Montana a check for $625? Why spend the stimulus money on each of the categories as listed in the article, and hope for a trickle up/down/sideways/any-which-way to benefit everyone. Cut out the middle man and just send us all a check. Sure, we've been shorted (as usual), but don't short us even more.

Show us the MONEY!!!

In my haste, I missed the 'n' in the first sentance. I did, of course, mean each "Montanan"...Though given how we are being given less than our fair share...!
