Republicans, You Deserve Better Than Sarah Palin

By Bob Wire, 7-07-09

Republicans, please. You can’t pin your 2012 hopes on Sarah Palin. It’s going to take more than a tough-talkin’ MILF to pull the GOP out of the ditch. You need some real leadership from somebody with real depth and substance. You need somebody who can take a punch.

We all know why she quit her post as Governor of Alaska. It’s easy (especially where Republicans are concerned): follow the money.

She has already spent $500,000 of her own cabbage in legal fees fighting off some 15 ethics complaints during her time in office. She’s not poor by any means, but that’s still a lot of spenderoni. Hell, down at the governor’s mansion, the housekeepers have begun locking up the toilet paper and office supplies. This woman reeks of duplicity and self-service. It’s widely known that Palin continues to collect state per diem funds even when she’s staying in her own house. Once she’s elected President in 2012, she says, she’s sure the “Department of Law there in the White House” would “automatically throw out” any of the complaints she’s been charged with. I’m sorry, did she say the White House Department of Law? Is that in the same wing as the Bureau of Phony Accents and the Royal Order of Things That Smell Like Goat Cheese?

Her reasons for turning her back on the people of Alaska make her sound even more crack-brained than McCain was in choosing her to join him on the ticket last year. The talking heads and political analysts have been burning up the media with speculation and hypothetical hoo-hah since Palin dropped her bombshell last week, but anyone with two synapses to rub together can figure it out. She sees herself as the Great White Hope for an anachronistic party that’s been firebombed into ashes by a dissatisfied electorate that wants more accountability, more honesty and more (any) compassion from its government.

After she stood at the hastily-constructed lectern and quit the job Alaska voters had elected her to do, her lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, said that she is “not a quitter.” Oh. I see. He was using the old Rush Limbaugh method of Socratic debate: repeat a bald faced lie loudly and often enough until people begin to accept it as fact. I hear the same thing from pro sports coaches when rumors surface about them being courted by another team. “Absolutely not,” they’ll say. “I’m committed to this team,” they’ll insist. “I’m not going anywhere!” they yell, pounding the podium. By that point, some maintenance guy is already out in the parking lot, stenciling the new coach’s name on his parking spot.

So then, after her defensive, whiny announcement, what does Palin do? She immediately goes on a fishing trip, hunkering down in the Boston Whaler with her Blackberry to spew tweets and Facebook updates (“Just found a place where we can dump Letterman’s body”) in an unseemly attempt to fend off media criticism like a head cheerleader who’d been ridiculed in the lunchroom over a hickey.

Was there anything of substance Palin had to offer? No. It’s the same vague boosterism, the same bumper sticker rah-rah crap she used to whip up her conservative followers during the campaign. And then there was her assertion that other lame duck governors are wrong for NOT leaving office early, showing up to cash a paycheck, things like that. Puh-lease, woman. Even Fox News isn’t going to let that one slide. She’s “doing what’s right for Alaska.” She’s “taking her fight to a larger stage.” What fight is that, exactly? Is she going to start a charity foundation, or spearhead some inner-city program to education underprivileged children? Nah. Nothing that specific. She’s “thinking outside the box” because she’s “unconventional.” What she IS is crazy as a shithouse rat. And foolish. But worst of all, she’s disingenuous and downright dishonest.

I’m not fooled; I’ve seen this game before. She’s not going to be leading anyone or anything, other than her own get-rich-quick foundation. She’s going to spend the next couple of years being a huckster, working the lecture circuit at $50,000 a pop, winking at starstruck chuckleheads while she babbles on about abstinence, drilling for oil at all costs, pro-life hysteria, and those evil liberals. She’ll have a shallow but wide fan base eating out of her hand, even though it smells like fish. She’ll be buffed and glossed and groomed for a run at the presidency in 2012, this time with top billing.

But Sarah Barracuda, instead of using your mega-watt star power and your high cheekbones to swell the party coffers, how about this—how about honoring your oath of office and doing the job you were elected to perform instead of jumping ship for a better offer? You can wrap this stinky salmon up in all the newspaper of double-talk you want, but we deserve better. America deserves better, Alaska deserves better, and yes, the Republican Party deserves better.

Palin knows that the FEDERAL immunity law would protect her as President to a greater extent than State law. BTW: Alaska's "Justice Department" is actually called the "Department of Law", headed by Attorney General Daniel S. Sullivan:

Comment By Bob Wire, 7-07-09

Well, that does explain her assumption that there is a Federal version with the same name. Thanks for the link, JakeD.

Comment By R. Keith Rugg, 7-07-09

bob, after this past couple of years, I'm beginning to think that ALL governors are as crazy as... well, you know.

Comment By Mickey Garcia, 7-07-09

The liberal punditocracy takes great delight in ridiculing Sara Palin. I certainly wouldn't vote for her because her public policy positions are way to the right of mine on most issues but I take her at her word. She's quite attractive and direct. She appears to me to be what she claims to be and I think she's right about resigning. The Alaskan legislature has her in it sights and more would be accomplished for the people of Alaska without her as a distraction.

Comment By the real mike, 7-07-09

Bob Wire! What do you think you're doing? The last thing we need to be doing is discouraging the GOP from putting this kooky tart right (no pun intended) at the very top of their 2012 ticket. It's their right (no pun intended here either) to do exactly as they please and we have no business interfering!

Comment By dave, 7-07-09

bob, bob, bob ,,, tell us really how you feel ????

Comment By hellokitty, 7-07-09

I'll bet a dollar her first stop in Montana is Bozeman...better put a kettle on for all the teabagging worshipers.

Comment By Bill Croke, 7-07-09

Well, Jay, Mickey, Tom, et al, I sure blew this one. I was convinced that Jill would do the Palin smackdown. But it turns out that it's none other than our old friend Bob Wire, fresh from the Deadhead bong trail....Well, Bob, where do I start?. If you want to be the Maureen Dowd of Missoula, I suggest hair coloring and medium-size breast implants. Just kidding there, Bob. But I do think the older you get you'll look more and more like Frank Rich. Do you remember Mr. Potato Head, Bob? Someday your grandchildren will amuse themselves sticking colored pins in your face. But back to Palin....Bob, I read the piece carefully and I'm trying to forget it. This is why the woman wants out. I look at the abuse I take at New West. Now multiply that by a million and that's Sarah Palin. Who could take that, especially from the likes of media divas like Katie Couric, and Lenny-Bruce-in-his-last-unfunny-days-but-without-drugs-----Lettermen.? The Hollywood crowd, the DC crowd, the Upper West Side crowd, ignorant college kids voting for the first time, 96% of Missoula, Montana, those 1.5 million people who tried to get tickets to Michael Jackson's funeral service, etc., etc. In short, Bob, (and I'm sorry to say it includes you) about 40-50%% of Americans who are political and cultural degenerates....She's tough, and I'd vote for her anytime. Though the conventional wisdom is right. She's writing off 2012. But she's far from done. She's a rock star to the people who are despised by the Maureen Wire's and Bob Rich's of the world. Just remember Richard Nixon in 1962 (though the Left loves the comparison). He lost the California gubernatorial race to Pat Brown and was hated by the Left even then for prosecuting Alger Hiss (time to hit the history books, Bob). At the famous press conference, he said: "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore". Six years later he was the President. She's, what, 44? 45? She'll be back, Bob. You're right. A book, speeches, Alaska U.S. Senate seat? A Fox News TV show (another fox on Fox, fair, balanced, and home to the foxy foxes of Fox--there's some alliteration for you, Jill). Back to the bong, Bob.

Comment By Bill Croke, 7-07-09

Oh, I forgot. So far no bad ethics stuff in Alaska (according to the FBI). Just lawsuits trying to drain her money. So pass the bong to Mikey and Mickey and Tom and Jay and Horst (you're going to run out, guys, better score some more), and tell me what you think?

Comment By Bob Wire, 7-07-09

Resigning your elected office in the middle of your term to feed your naked ambition is not "bad ethics stuff?" At least Tricky Dick got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Ignore the message and denigrate the messengers all you want, but this woman totally brings this scorn on herself. I'm trying to make the point that I think it's a mistake for the GOP to rally around this train wreck. They can do better.

Comment By bearbait, 7-07-09

Mr. Wire!! Palin is picking reds from a set net into a skiff. It is a business. She fishes for salmon and sells salmon. You fish for comments and sell a blog. Both pay the bills. Her business will feed someone. Yours will feed you.

I'd like to see Barney Frank and Harry Letterman at the same ball game just so I could make weiner remarks. Do ya suppose Letterman would be offended? Frank would not be.

Anyone making cracks about some jock knocking up your daughter during the seventh inning stretch going to get a pass from you, or would you do the honorable thing, and redirect the snot locker on the pissant?

I guess we ALL should realize that if you didn't go to Yale or Harvard Law, you are not smart enough to be heard as a political figure. Of course, those same people who are so smart and are Harvard and Yale schooled, have fubar'ed our economy to the deepest tanking in half a century. Palin KNOWS that when 35% of your economy is Finance, you are upside down and sinking. She has that knowledge from handling boats in a place with 30 foot tides, a skill not taught a Yale Law. We are tits up in this country because we have been led by the smarty pants set from the entitled class in government. And here comes Al Franken, Harvard, to rail for the left. He is a comedian. A joke writer. But he is one of YOUR'S so it is not cause for humiliation. Franken's supposed to be the filibuster breaker, but that will depend on Kennedy, who has a frigging brain tumor, growing, and still he holds his Senate seat because he hasn't got the good sense to give it up to a Democrat appointee from Mass. who could show up to vote every day. Smart, those Democrats. And Bryd from West Virginia, 88 or 89, shakes like a dog shitting peach pits, can't walk, is dying before our eyes, and he keeps his seat when good sense, an ethical purpose, would be to step down and let another Democrat like Nick Rahal be appointed to his Senate seat. Rahal shows up. He is not batty. But, NOoooooo! It is a debate about Sarah Palin, all day every day. Except, of course, when Smarty Pants Couric spends the day covering Michael Jackson's pathetic demise. She shows up when Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson show up. Franken can show up for the Senate votes Harry Reid needs, but even Reid can't count on Kennedy or Byrd being there. In light of that, attack Palin. The old misdirection play.

It says a hell of a lot about America, the way we treat the family of a public person, and we should be god damned embarrassed about how the media, the press, the smarty pants elite, the pundits, the trendy journalists, the post-Madoff investors, have treated the family of Sarah Palin. Nobody deserves that kind of shit from a bunch of "I'm better than you" self serving asswipes, for the coincidental happenstance of being related to someone in the public eye. Chicken crap deal. No honor for the reporters and commentators in the Palin deal. Kick the piss out of her, because you do have to expose your superiority, but leave her kids alone, her family alone. And while you are at it, get a life. Sarah Palin, Michael Jackson. Isn't there a real story out there. Seven good American kids killed in Afghanistan yesterday. Savage Obama for not bringing them home like he said he would when he was campaigning.

Comment By Bill Croke, 7-07-09

Hey Bob, looks like bearbait ate your Bobbait. Anyway, I was shocked when she resigned. I thought it was political suicide to not even finish her term, etc. But the more I think and read about it (try Roger Stone ,Google "Stonezone", he's a legendary old Nixon hand), like Nixon, the Left will always hate her. She really had no chance in 2012 due to lack of experience anyway. Romney, Gingrich, whoever, etc. will pick up the wreckage that Obama, Pelosi, et al leave behind. And it will be wreckage. It'll be enough wreckage (economically, foreign policy) for the GOP to get the Congress back in 2010 to begin with: just like 1994. She'll hone her resume' and do her homework. 2008 was good experience for her. She understands more and more the Left's nasty game. Roger Stone says she could be president in 2020. She'll be 56. Quite a bit younger than Hillary Clinton is today. It's possible. I'll be 66, and if by the grace of God I'm still here, I'll vote for her. But you knew that already. Anyway, check out Roger Stone.

I had heard of Sarah Palin before McC ever picked her for his VP. I was impressed that she had taken on the corruption in her own party. So when I got a chance to see her in person, I did.

I saw Sarah Palin in Auburn last month. While waiting for the festivities to begin -- parade & speeches --I spoke with some locals who were angry that the local news media did not promote the governor's visit. And yet 20,000 showed up from all over. How? By the internet grapevine, mostly. That's how I heard about it.

There were some protesters with their signs. One guy next to me wore a particularly nasty t-shirt denigrating President Bush. Although I couldn't see when Sarah Palin stepped onto the podium, I knew when she did because everyone went wild. As she spoke, the signs came down. Even Mr. Nasty T-shirt applauded her.

I realize that honesty in politics is a foreign concept, but I take her at her word. She said that her state's business was not getting done because her time was taken up with the trivial pursuits of a few people with too much time of their hands and too much hate. Not to mention the co$t.

[heh, heh]

Comment By Bill Cody, 7-08-09

Bob and The Real Mike have it right but miss the fundamental root of the Palin debacle. First of all John McCain didn't choose Sarah Palin, the Republican puppet masters did. Come on, after the carnage of W. the prospect of stealing another national election was dim. A perfect moment to run a woman on the national ticket, check that box. What they didn't count on was her staying power, and the irrepressible ignorance of the Pavlovian right wing of the GOP. They buy into the idea of another illiterate, uninformed President of the United States. She's a throw away candidate from a state on the fringes of American society. Real Mike points out that Sarah would be an ideal Republican against whom to run. And it's true except the GOP has a funny way of stealing votes in places like Florida and Ohio. They can actually get these idiots elected when they really want to. No, Mike, better to flush the dangerous fish into the Bering Sea and take our chances against someone with at least a scintilla of intellect.

Comment By Bob Wire, 7-08-09

Bill Cody, I'm awarding you two bonus points for use of the word "scintilla."

And to address your point, I'm cynical enough to believe that the string pullers ARE the ones who plucked Palin from the pool of candidates. But what about all McCain's subsequent crowing about being a "maverick," and his own handlers publicly scratching their heads over that decision? I suppose we'll never know the truth, but the good news is that it really doesn't matter.

Comment By doggerel, 7-08-09

No, Bob, the Repugs do not deserve better. Sarah, who I guess is now just a MILF instead of a GILF, is exactly what they are- self interested and greedy at all costs. To you...

Comment By T Bo B, 7-08-09

Do you know how totally offensive "MILF" is to women? Can you all just get over this descriptor? I'm a big-time Democrat, but you're really dragging the party through the sleaze when you make such personal references to public figures. I have never supported Palin, but I really feel empathy for her because of the crap slung her way from those who feel "enlightened and justified" to do so. Show a little more class and respect to your opponents and you'll get a few more readers than the fringes who normally feed on this stuff...

Comment By Jay Kanta, 7-08-09

Hey T Bo B:
The Republicans were the first ones to notice that Palin's best chances were first and foremost her looks. While I don't like the term, either, liberals had to stand in line to use it. While "they did it first" isn't a great excuse, it does explain the widespread usage of the term.

Empathy for her? Why? Because she used her children as campaign props, then cries fowl when the public does what the public always does? "White House dog" ring any bells? Her continued attempts to maintain the public eye, using both her looks and her permanent status as a "persecuted" chosen one makes her more than worthy of mockery. Her notable lack of new ideas and her prescription to "Demagoguery Is Us" is enough to denote her as one lacking the intelligence to even enter in the debates. There is a minimum, and she's well below it.

**note: all spelling errors are intentional in a poor attempt at humor.

Comment By Bill Croke, 7-08-09

Jay, Edit your posts. I thought people who went to graduate school did a better job of expressing themselves. You're sounding like today's ordinary run-of-the-mill loons flying around like Lucky, Beau, and Buffalo Bill Cody, not mention Bob himself. I already told you she had no hopes for 2012. Get a grip. The trouble with the Lefty bluster on this thread is that it thinks it has some sort of grounding in rational discourse because it takes its cues from MSNBC, Daily Kos, etc. Give me a break. I'm not getting personal and calling you guys nasty morons, but your views are nastily moronic.

Comment By Jay Kanta, 7-08-09

Whats the matter, Billy, don't want the truth? Don't want to be reminded how "we don't know who she is, but she's pretty!" was the talk of every right-wing blog when McCain announced his pick? How about the fact that most of her support continues to be from men? Women don't like her, even conservative women. I'd sure like to be proven wrong, that she is more intelligent than she has ever appeared, but for some reason, I don't think that is going to happen. She has too many defenders like yourself that are more than willing to overlook her obvious lack of brains in favor of over-looking her bust.

What Palin has, and will continue to have, is a spotlight because of the vapid 30% of hard core right-wingers. Those that believe shooting an abortion doctor is "an eye for an eye", that the only good tax is one that is being cut and that believe that Iran is in need of a serious bombing.

But I should stop there, as I notice that your post is more name calling and labeling and actually lacks anything like substance. More of the usual from the Billy.

Comment By jwscotch, 7-08-09

"Was there anything of substance Obama had to offer? No. It’s the same vague boosterism, the same bumper sticker rah-rah crap..." A better "fit," don't-cha-think?

Comment By Bill Croke, 7-08-09

Jay, I'm not going to restate anything I've previously written above. You've probably already read it. I just have one question: Jay, why do waste your lunch hour doing this? Get out for a walk before the timer alarm in your cubicle goes off.

Comment By Bob Wire, 7-08-09

@jwscotch:
Re-read the article above. You'll see that I was referring to Palin's resignation speech of last week, not last year's presidential campaign.

Comment By doggerel, 7-08-09

Comment By Dewey, 7-08-09

We want Sarah Palin to be the GOP frontrunner. Stay in the game , darling...those late night comedians and Stewart and Colbert need you. We want Tina Fey to retire on you.

We promise not to make an issue of the titular female leader of the GOP conservatives and family values wing who ABORTED her Governorship in the 2nd Trimester. We promise never to say that...

...oops.

Comment By christophster, 7-08-09

1st...You lost me when you said "MILF". I was at the golden rebellious age of 15 when the movie American Pie came out. I laughed at the MILF joke when I was 15 but now I am 25 and see the MILF term as nothing more than a teenage fad. I am not offended by the term (although I imagine many women are) but I am offended by your lame attempt to conduct humor.

2nd...Sarah Palin will NOT be running in 2012! The only way she runs in 2012 is if her book and tv deals don't rake in enough cash. But even then, she will not REALLY be "running for president" (because there is no chance in hell she will win) but she will be "running for president" for the precious PR that will ultimately bring more money to the Palin family.

Comment By Rhiana, 7-08-09

If the Republican Party cannot do better than Palin, it had better just dissolve its' existence. Sarah Palin's mere presence in the public eye is, and continues to be an offense to me as a human being, a woman, an outdoorsman and an American. She should step down and out of the limelight forever so I can slowly recover, (in my left-wing bong haze), from the nightmare that was her 15 minutes in the political arena. The fact that she didn't scare the hell out of ALL people in the United States leaves me wondering if not Sarah, who will the Repubs dream up for their new "star" next? Oh that’s right….it was Jindal wasn’t it? Good gracious those righties have a frightening sense of humor! They need to find someone with a working brain, a true personality, compassion, flexible ideas and realistic goals. Then they MIGHT have a candidate that voters in the middle would consider listening to. In the mean time…don’t go away mad Sarah….just go away!

Comment By timbertiger, 7-08-09

Looks like the majority of Republicans aren't exactly lining up for her help with campaigns:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_PALIN_GOVERNORS?SITE=MTMIS&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=national-2008.php

What about all the other women (heck, most politicians) who deal with all this crap, most of them for years? Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Janet Reno are just a few that pop into my mind. The difference there is that they are repeatedly skewered for their looks, rather than held up because of them. Every move, every word, family - all personally criticized and critiqued daily and none of them quit. It's a sad truth that it's what today's politicians accept as part of the package of being in the public eye.

Now that that kid who petitioned for foreign student rights at Occidental, Barry Sotero, is President of the Left and the rest of us, too, I do have some concerns about the future of the country.

Palin at least has a birth certificate we can see. That the left can't come up with a certified US Citizen for President is not something that brings comfort to all. But that is who we got from the George Soros money and the Ariana Huffington blogs.

First it was Bill Clinton and the iffy money from Asia, and when the rocket guidance systems from Hughes were sold to China, you knew that chits were called. The loss of the the multi-position milling machines to the Eastern block by way of Norway still makes me nervous, as those were the reason we could create a silent submarine screw, one that the underwater listening posts couldn't detect. Ah, just water under the bridge. The US is just being a good world citizen....in our own eyes...the rest of the world would like not better than to see us on our collective ass, begging for mercy.

Would Palin punt? I don't know. Will Barry Sotero? Your bet is as good as mine. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The paving crew is working overtime, using our dollars.

Anyone else remember Iran cheering on the 9/11 terrorists?

No? Neither does Iran: "In Iran, vast crowds turned out on the streets and held candlelit vigils for the victims. Sixty-thousand spectators respected a minute's silence at Tehran's football stadium."

So the ignorant statement that "the rest of the world would like not better than to see us on our collective ass, begging for mercy" is nothing more than a trollish attempt (and maybe I took the bait).

As for the milling machines? Just to let everyone know what he's talking about: Toshiba sold milling machines, through a company named Kongsberg, in 1987. Which would have been a Saint Reagan fault, no? Evidently not in the world of bearbait.

Barry Sotero? Maybe he means Soetero, a name that there is no evidence of Barack Obama using. His step father's name was Soetero, as is his half-sister.

And bearbait as a birther? Pretty hilarious. Says a lot about him, right there.

If Sarah Palin were as dumb as libs are trying to paint her, they would have nothing to worry about would they? It seems to me that you guys are protesting too much, and I think you are afraid of her ability to get votes. Democrat politicians in Alaska understand that Sarah has not been on the take, which of course confirms their opinion that she is dumb and they have filed obviously frivilous lawsuits against her to bankrupt her and distract her from her job. I guess that is a new Democrat campaign tactic.
I have no idea what those initials are you are refering to, but if they are insulting to women it tells how valid your opinions are.

Come on, Toad, the truth is that the vast majority of serious attacks on Palin are coming from your Republican brethren who are afraid that she'll actually end up influencing your party or, worse, end up as a nominee on your ticket again. Most Democratic mentions of her, including Bob Wire's article here and my original response, are not serious attacks, but just efforts to get a laugh at the expense of a silly pompous person. Yes, some of these efforts can be a little pointed (then again, have you listened to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, or Anne Coulter lately?); but, they're not serious attacks, just a bit of sarcasm. We've actually enjoyed Palin; it's the party leadership on your side that has been most sincerely irritated by her and you can't legitimately blame that on us.

Comment By Jay Kanta, 7-09-09

Todd's and Kittie's failure is that they don't recognize that voters on both sides have less interest in Barney Frank than they have in Barney Fife. Voters in this country are woefully misinformed (just like Palin, most of the time).

But just for the personal enjoyment:
Palin voters are more likely to
a) Believe in creationism
b) Back Intelligent Design
c) Have less education
d) Be so anti-abortion they kill doctors
e) Watch Fox News
f) Have stockpiles of weapons buried in their backyards
g) Run a still
h) Believe that a bunch of cut splices really do represent all Obama supporters
i) Believe in aliens
j) Have less than 3 teeth

Good thing Palin has self-destructed and the only support she has is from the 30% hardliners that wouldn't vote for a Democrat if Hitler was running as the Republican candidate. (Godwined! Yes to me!)

Comment By Todd, 7-09-09

Gee real mike, you brought back old memories, I haven't been called Toad since grade school. You must be younger than I thought.

Comment By the real mike, 7-09-09

Jay, I have to point an error and an omission in your list. Your item "e) Watch Fox News" should accurately be "e) Watch Faux News" and you're missing an item "k) Have one eye."

Comment By Bill Croke, 7-09-09

Jay, Your last post. A and B are synonymous.C. Prove (academic or experience of life?)D. Any doctors? E. As compared to MSNBC? F. The Iranians? North Koreans? G. Joe Kennedy, Sr. made much of the family fortune by bootlegging in the 1920s. It sent Joe, Jr., John, Bobby, Ted, et al to Harvard, etc. H. Incomprehensible, don't get the "cut splices" allusion. Sorry. I. Mexicans? Martians? J. I'm guessing that Milton Friedman, William F. Buckley, Jr.,Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, Russell Kirk, James Burnham, et al wore dentures due to their advanced years before they left us. They would have thought much of Palin, especially Reagan, who was literally threatened (by phone)with having acid thrown in his face in 1949, when he was active in battling the American Communist Party guys in the Screen Actors Guild. Sort of reminds me what Palin endured from your comrades on the Left in the last year. Anyway, just something else you don't know, Jay. What did you do in graduate school anyway?....Mikey: K. James Joyce was blind in one eye due to iritis. Wore a patch under his glasses. Wrote "Ulysses". Read it. Homer, Milton, Francis Parkman, W.S. Prescott, Borges, James Thurber were to a certain degree all blind. Let's not forget Ray Charles and innumerable other musicians. Jay and Mikey: Your caricatures are hideous. But typical of the vicious stuff we get from elite (or so they would have us think) pseudo-intellectuals who've spent years in classrooms kissing ass and learning nothing, so they can sit in cubicles and tell people how smart they are and make lots of money. No learning there, just a piece of paper that says so, etc. Pretty shallow. Anyway, Jay, you should get together with Rhiana. She sounds like quite a woMAN. And smart. I wonder if she shaves her legs? By the way, has Bob Wire written a piece lately?

Poor spelling, an inability to write a coherent argument and a stunning lack of intelligence. Yep, another Palin supporter. Welcome, darin!

Make friends with Bill Croke, seems like you two should be best buds.

The reversal of Bush Administration criminal Presidential signing statements, investigations of the criminal activities in the CIA and in the Justice Department, removal of troops from Iraq, and on and on and on. 10% unemployment? If you think thats bad, you should go give Bushie a medal for it.

Thank you darin, you've now shown the depth of your understanding of our Constitution and of freedom.

Amazing that fear can control you, and so many weaklings just like you, so easily.

the constitution was designed for americans by americans and freedom.. NOT DESIGNED FOR FORGEIN TERRORIST--..

Comment By Jay Kanta, 7-12-09

Just keep repeating that mantra to yourself, darin. It helps all of you little fearful republicans from wetting the bed at night. No one is above the law, darin. Not even your shooting beer buddy, Cheney.

Comment By darin, 7-12-09

look-- i dont like cheney eather..he looks like a snake in the grass.. im sure he crossed the line-- but were is the line against our enemy that will do anything to kill americans you know? i sure a can of worms will be opened for sure..

Comment By Jay Kanta, 7-12-09

Yeah, when hasn't someone wanted to kill Americans? Stop thinking you're special, that Bush had to do something out of the ordinary. You're a frightened little bunny with little knowledge of the Constitution or the separation of powers. You're willing to sell your rights to the highest bidder in order to get a little bit of false security.

But I'm done teasing you. You're just a typical frightened little Republican voter. Nothing new, just the same arguments from 2002, the same bad justifications, the same fear.

Hey everybody. I'm sure Jill's got a copy of "The Elements of Style". I'm sure she'll lend it. She doesn't use it very much. And Jay, what's this preoccupation with "Republican bed-wetting"? I think you should show some compassion towards the urinary-incontinence community. After all, as you sit in your cubicle all day with your smug attitude and wearing your Depends.

Gah! these posts are getting ugly with personal attacks - I now relectantly wade through this gobbledegook of vitreol hoping for substantive information.

NOTE TO NEW WEST: I understand freeflow of ideas, but these arent ideas. Methinks think this denegration is driving away your readership (and gaining new ones, unfortunately). I am hesitant to visit and read because most of the text seems to be full of junk these days, and wastes precious time I'll seek out the more thoughtful, the less disgusting. I rid me of thee, New West!

Naz. Agreed. We have taken a few steps to see if they help. Don't give up yet; come back and see us, and thanks.

Comment By Linda, 7-21-09

Palin/Jindal ticket?? That would be: Dumb and Dumber. The Republicans must have some other people who can run for office. People who were more than average college students. People who graduated with honors and went to grad school. They need someone who is SMART. And someone who is capable of thinking with both sides of his or her brain. As we have right now in the White House, we need an intelligent person with a plan. Not someone of average brain power who doesn't have a clue.

Comment By Mickey Garcia, 7-21-09

Dumb asses and their admirers can also be cunning. George Bush was a dumb ass and he got elected. Still has a lot of admirers. Obama is visibly more intelligent that George Bush but be careful of that elitist notion that in would better to have the so called intelligentsia running the country. It takes much more than intelligence to get elected and run the country. Social skills, common sense, charisma, cunning, etc. are needed and exceed the importance of academic "intelligence". It seems left wing intellectual energy would be better spent on figuring out how to keep the Democraps in power rather than belittling Palin and her admirers. After all the dumber she really is, the better but she may not be as dumb as many folks would like to think and she has qualities that non-degreed middle and blue collar Americans like.

Comment By Jay Kanta, 7-21-09

"Assumptions are the mother of all farkups."

Assuming that everyone that thinks Palin is a vapid beauty queen is a "Dumbocrat" is pretty limiting.

Of course, your use of "Dumbocrat" labels the rest of your post as a piece of useless tripe.

Comment By Mickey Garcia, 7-21-09

You're inferring an assumption that doesn't exist in my comment for the purpose of venting hostility. Careful, if you do that to often, more people will realize you're a blithering idiot.
