The Government Has Failed Us

Where is the water? Where is the food? Where is the help? But most importantly where is Bush? The lack of action and coordination by the Federal government is disgusting. Reports are flooding in of governmental mismanagement. These poor people survived the hurricane, they survived the flooding and now when they need help the government lets them die, baking in the streets. Who do you blame? Bush. The leader of the country has failed his citizens.

The following is an excerpt from today's NYT:
...The president's tour of New Orleans today comes four days after the hurricane hit the city. On Thursday night in a radio interview the city's mayor, C. Ray Nagin blasted the government for its lack of an immediate response.

"I've talked directly with the president, I've talked to the head of the homeland security, I've talked to everybody under the sun, I've been out there," Mr. Nagin said on WWL 870 AM. He said that he needed at least 500 more buses and more troops sent to the city immediately.

"They were talking about getting public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people. I'm like you got to be kidding me - this is a national disaster," he said. "Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get them moving to New Orleans. That's them thinking small, man. This is a major, major, major deal. I can't emphasize that enough man, this is crazy."

The federal response to the calamity was criticized by two Democratic House members, Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois and Elijah Cummings of Missouri. Mr. Jackson said the government's performance had been "shockingly awful," while Mr. Cummings said, "We have long heard claims of compassionate conservatism among our nation's leaders. We now want the compassion."...
