Rich Wandschneider, of Oregon's Fishtrap writer's community, has passed along notice of a unique opportunity to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. "Books For Folks," a web presence begun by former New Orleans resident and author, Janis Owens, posts as its mission statement, "To provide books and literature for refugees of Hurricane Katrina and to serve as a clearinghouse for temporary employment opportunities & information about needs for displaced writers." Hey, someone sent me this question, and answer is that no, Katrina isn't last disaster we'd lend a hand on. We're having to curtail our book-sending because all of Katrina-land is in a haul-out mode instead of a haul-in mode.

But we're there and will be there till the libraries are back open and books have returned to wiped-out parts of Dixie.
