Stunning! My heart goes out to you - what a nightmare! I know nothing about K stones but have come to realize that we -including our families and friends- are our own best advocates when it comes to our healthcare. Take care! I hope you'll be back at 100% soon!!
Comment By Mike, 2-14-06I feel your pain, literally. I've shared many of the issues you have. Have peed in very public places because theres no holding it back.
Just got back from an unsucessful try at removing stint, was the worst pain I remember. Worse than the stones, and worse than the pain that sent me to the er the day after surgery(blood clot caused plumbing to back up). I go back Thursday to have stint removed under anesthesia.
OH BOY! CAN I RELATE. I HAD TO HAVE SURGERY TO
REMOVE MY STONES I STILL NOT QUITE SURE WHY. THE FIRST ROUND IN NOVEMBER, THEN TWO WEEKS LATER
EMERGENCY ROOM ADMITTED FOR 5 DAYS MAJOR INFECTION
THEN IN JAN. 2006 GO TO HAVE THE REST OF THE STONES
REMOVED. WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL MY BLOOD PRESSURE
KEEPS GOING TO LOW. FINALLY IT'S O.K. THEN I GET
AN INFECTION IN MY MOUTH. FINALLY I GO HOME, BUT
I STILL HAVE THE TUBE IN MY BACK WITH A BAG
ATTACHED. FEB. 8 BAG REMOVED. ON FEB. 17 THEY ARE
SUPPOSE TO REMOVE THE STINT. AND THEN I HOPE THIS
IS ALL OVER, BUT PROBABLY NOT, BECAUSE THEY SAID
I STILL HAD SOME STONES LEFT. WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!
I had lithotripsy; in December for a stone. had two days of extreme pain after it but got fragments. Now Three months getting small pains again. Hope now a new one. The hospital billed me $21000 plus the 3400 for the urologist and such. Thats for an hour on the machine and 2-3 in recovery, outpatient. We are fighting the bill as our insurance dropped our hospital and we have to pay mot of it. The insurance also said the bill should have been $10000. What a mess health care is.
Comment By Sandra, 3-26-06Here is my story:
Around Feb 06
Reading all of yours helps me as this is the worst pain I have ever had. for the last six months or so I have had blood in my urine and
bladder infections. So I went to an urologist
who did a cystascope and found that he couldn't
see any bladder cancer. He then did sent me to
me to have an ultrasound so look at my kidney
and urthera.......
Send me home with antibiodics. On March 7th I
had horrible kidney stone attack and thought I
was going to die called the ambulance taken to the hospital where they did a cat scan said I had a 5mm kidney stone logged in my side. So next day went to the urologist said, yes let's do
a litrospy (sp) and get rid of it. That was Wed on Friday had another horrible bout of pain checked myself back into the hospital after 2.5 hours waiting in ER, the on call said yes it's moved and it needs to come out. Well duh...
gave me heavy narcotis and tried to send me home.
My husband told the ER Doctor to call my Dr and get is A___ down here and do the surgery since I hadn't eaten and could do it right away. That was on Friday the 10th. They removed stone and put a stint there. Got home that Sat the 11th.
Go back into the doctor on Monday he removes the
stint and my that afternoon I'm in severe pain. I call him he said it was because of the stint removal, advises me to take drugs and relax. About 7:00am on Tuesday I'm in excrusiating pain,
check myself int to hospital and the ER doctor says I have water in my kidney. They put me back into the hospital and I really don't remember much of Wednesday....n My husband comes down with
bronchitis and can't be with me. Thursday the nurse wakes me up and says there ready for me in surgery. I know nothing about this and really angry and by myself. I have a huge fight with my doctor and I tell him that he is a total incompetent jerk. Being since threre is no one else to put that stint back in, I let him do it.
I go home on the 18th. Now I'm suppose to have the stint taken out on the 28th. This time he has ordered an X-ray of my kidney and ureter to see if it has healed. I also have another appointment with another urologist to see if he agrees. I have been in so much pain that I actually had an out of body experience and If you want I will tell you about sometime. I am so scared that my kidney will not function after they removed the stint this week, I had to get couseling. Wish me luck....
stone loged in my side. Ok next day went to
I recently had a stone removed and a stint put in. This is the most discomfort I have felt in a long time. Its been 8 days now and the stint comes out in 4 days. But my main concern is the amount of blood that is showing up in my urine. I mean it looks like 90% blood, 10% urine. And right before I finish I can feel the burn coming and the blood gets thicker and just drips for a few seconds. The burn last for about 10-15 seconds. I drink water but not no 3 quarts a day. After reading some of these articles Im gonna drink water til I get sick. This is really scaring me. I was really disappointed when I left the hospital. I was in the wrong at first because I drove myself home, about 70 miles. But I have no family around and I wasnt about to ask someone to waste a vacation day just to take me to and from the hospital. I told the hospital I was gonna stay at this half way house, a place right beside the hospital. But as soon as I got there something told me to go on home so I did. I walked a half mile back to my truck and left. Once Im awake from the anesthesia Im ok. I was feeling too much discomfort to fall asleep while driving. My doctor never called me to check on me that night or the next day. Later that next evening one of his nurses called and told me I would be feeling much better by the weekend,(this was thursday), so I got my hopes up that this procedure really wasnt nothing. How wrong I was and how wrong she was for misleading me. I felt like dirt all weekend. The doctor did give me five days worth of antibiotics and some hydrocodone for pain. I was hoping I would be able to go back to work the next monday, which I did, but this week has been pure hell on me. And like the one guy was saying, when you have to go, you have to go, I would feel so much pain in my kidney when i have to go. So I figured something wasnt right so I called my doctor and told the nurse I was in extreme pain and she told me if it got no better in the next few days to come on in and they would remove the stint early. They also called in a prescription of prosed to help relax my bladder and stop the burning, it didnt work. All it gave me was diarrhea. So I stopped them. I spoke with a different nurse (this was #3) and she told me that this was all normal and the pain and burning was from the stint, duh, and to just try and make it a few more days, she said some people's bodies just have different reactions to the stint, obviously my body was rejecting it. This is Thursday evening and the stint comes out Monday, I really feel like something is wrong with me passing so much blood but they wont listen. Luckily I dont have a fever at the moment but its gonna be another lousy weekend for me, if I live through it. I cant wait til Monday so I can show his good looking nurses my shriveled up penis and they can watch me get embarrassed and humiliated while the doc takes that stint out. Isnt life humbling? You gotta love it. And people wonder why there are assholes in the world.
Comment By Frank E. Roberts, 8-09-06Going through that whole process now. Had the laser and scope up through the bladder and into the ureter to break up the stone. Stint has been in place for five days. The first time I urinated after the procedure I have sweat droplets forming and running down me like I was taking a shower.
Pain has subsided over the five days to where I only have to bang on the wall over the toilet or try to bend the towel rack into a u-shape. I have told the doctor's nurse (can't get him. Too busy) several times exactly where the pain is (below the kidney and above the bladder, which is where the stint is. She does not hear a word I say, and keeps coming back with "you might have a bladder infection. Come in and give us a urine specimen". I did that and no infection. And guess what? I got a sample box of Detrol LA to relief the pain. I took one tablet as prescribed and a few hours later, though unsuccessful in bending the towel rack in a U-shape, was able to rip it out of the wall. I cannot get a response to the question of how much pain during the removal of the stint, but if its anything let the last five days, that doctor is going to have to rebuild his procedures room because I'll have everything ripped off of the walls by the time he's done. So here I am at 2:55 AM waiting for the pain-killer to kick in so I can get some sleep.
I had a stent installed and my stone broken-up last wednesday. The burning with the start of urination lasted through mid-friday. I don't usually take pain medicine but took a lortab substitute through
friday.
Now it's a discomfort like a thumb pressing into my
kidney so its something I can live with.
I started with a bit of blood in the urine but that has mostly gone.
The worse now is the feeling of needing to pee all the time. Right after I go it is the worse.
I'm supposed to get the stent removed next friday.
I'm concerned that I haven't caught any pieces of my stone. I've been using a strainer and think that I may have only gotten one tiny piece. (the stone was 1.7cm in diameter) Is is possible that
most of it was removed during the procedure? Seems like that would be the mose logical time since they would have the tools in place anyway.
Oh, the string hanging out is just weird.
This is sunday, I've not had any fevor so I'm going to try an go to work tomorrow. Since I am a programmer, I don't have to be too physical so it should work.
I guess my main concern is whether the stone is gone or not. I've not had any of the sharp stabbing pain but if it was broken up to smaller parts that may be the case. The dr is going to do another set of x-rays to look for parts. I so want this stent removed and to forgo any further work.
My story pretty much mirrors everybody elses. My stone barely made it out of the Kidney and I was in so much pain I was dry heaving & yes, nearly crying. After surgery they broke it into four pieces. They retrieved the two largest and left me to pass the two smaller. They were nice enough to put in a stent to help. One piece is gone the other is on the way, I can feel it. I have to go Monday and need to know how bad is it going hurt when they remove the stint, this really scares me. I've been through enough pain.
Comment By Robert, 8-19-06Got my stent removed yesterday (friday). It wasn't painfull not quite. Sort of like the feeling when you touch something that is very warm. Not quite hot enough to make you move your hand but almost.
And it was over in less than a second. So while I don't want the feeling of having a stent in place, the process of removing it was not bad in my case.
Weirdly I've passed 6 pieces since they removed the stent and absolutly no pain! One was the biggest I've seen yet. Over one mm long about half a mm wide. I feel better than I have in quite a while. I wonder if they were already in my bladder? Does that happen? I know there were pieces left in my kidney cause we could see them on the x-ray. They had moved to the botteom of the kidney. Dr. said they would come out over time. I was very physically active today! Lifting and pushing and bending all around so maybe I shook them out.
please can someone let me know ! my dad has had his first kidney stone. I have been doing research for him. He wants to know if the pain stops right as soon as the stone is passed? please email to let me know if possible!
Comment By Robert, 9-07-06For the the most part yes. I recently had a 17mm stone broken apart. After the stent was removed, I passed one of the pieces that didn't quite get as small as was expected. It was 5.5mm! It was extremely painful and I even felt it as it went out my penis. After it left, I had a bit of discomfort
not really pain but more than ever before. I guess it left a few scratches. My take has always been that knowing what is causing the pain helps a lot.
thanks for the info robert.
Comment By jess, 9-09-06now my dad is saying :
"it seems to me the reason for the pain is because your body needs to respond to the pain to push the stone out and if you take the meds does it prevent the stone from passing quickly.
would pain killers slow down the progress of the stone passing?" because your body doesnt know somethings wrong because you dont feel pain therefor it doesnt try to push the stone out?
he is freaking out about taking the medication. he thinks is slowing the stone from passing.
could this be true?
Well, I think it's like most everything else. The more you
can relax the easier thing go. Beside that, I have had the
most pain from these after I've done something physical.
I've heard that they only hurt when they are moving or
if they cause a blockage that get infected so that makes
some sense. So I for one don't believe that the painkiller
would slow it down. I think it would actually help.
thanks :)
Comment By Paul Ford, 12-17-06Great Story,
I have one to tell. I have Cystoscopy with llipotripsy TWICE. And it could happen again. Stones come and go.
Tell me where to write my story. The above story is hilariously written although passing a stone is no joke. It IS akin to the pains women have when giving birth. Your man-card could be suspended indefinitely or worst, revoked if the sounds you make are ever recorded and heard by the people who make up MAN-LAW.

Thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry to hear about your Kidney Stone and how it affected you so much afterwards. Especially with the fall to your neck and head. I had the same operation yesterday and no medications for infections. My water intake sucks but while reading your story I drank 1 litre of water and after this comment will be going for another 500 ml. I really hope you are feeling better now and that the nightmare is behind you. You sound like you were a healthy person before, doing your morning jogs and so on. I hope you regain that someday. Best of wishes to you and your family and I know some of your pain. Morphine, Endocet, Demerall and Tertitle or something like that. I am now on Tylenol 2's after the operation. Wussy pills but it scares me to think that no antibiotics. So I hope to drink 5 litres a day until the appointment. Take Care my friend, not being a heavily religious man it takes a lot for me to say this. God Bless you and may you have a healthy recovery!
Sincerely
David T. Chapmn
Kidney Stones!
If I never hear those words again, it will be a prayer answered.
My nightmare started Jan. 2nd, 2007... I went in for the shock wave breaking up. The stent was the most hidious thing I ever esperienced! I have had five children and a needle shoved in my neck for treatment and nothing like that horrible stent...With the other stuff your pain comes and goes. With the stent it never stops, plus when you pee your body goes into fits. It does that because an object in there that is not supposed to be so it tries to reject it. Then things go really bad , the urine backs up and infection gets into my bloodstream. The doc told my daughter that if they had waited another night then I might not have made it. It took five days to get me well enough to go home.
As far as the stones, I was a special case (lucky me). I had a stone the size of walnut stuck in my kidney which had my left kidney descended downward. This had to probed loose then broken up which I also had another handfull of pea sized stones. I had to have a second shockwave after the first one (this is after I almost died). They could not break up all mine cause they were tos big and too many. After the second round I was in so mucn pain I could barely stand. Now I feel so weak. I dont get child support and so I cant just rest indefinately...Then also recheck time, I get a catscan and the urologist tell me one in two hundrend get blood behind the kidney. Well lucky me I did. I have been on antibiotics for two months now.
The loritab made everything worse because it causes constipation.
I passed nothing through the stent. I did not start passing stones until two weeks after the surgery with no stent. I passed with many hours in tubs of extreme hot water a six c stone. I passes at least a hundred smaller. I still have one three c stone left which seems to be stuck. They are talking about probing it out on March 5th if it dont come out on its on...More luck!!!
As far as what we can do for ourselves, make hot water you friend...It makes you pee, the hotter the better. Yes plenty of water, but I hate water , it makes me gag. I drank it anyway. But not as much as recommended. So I drand lot'st of weak tea, and juices, the kiddie kind with little sugar like capri sun strawberry kiwi. Also at one point when I knew I was being blocked by a stone I drank a beer really fast that stuff goes straight through me! Then I got into a hot tub of water. I managed to have all the usual and unusual complication. I am still hurting...I believe soda of any kind (even diet, the carbonation) makes them or at the least makes them worse.
I am 52 and I am full out changing my diet including what I drink.
Because I did not have insurance until recently I could not get any of then podunk places to listen to me. So I have suffered for a really long time, even before the surgery...
Good luck, and God Bless EVERYONE with STONES!
Oh My God, I am so stressed out now after reading all this. After 4 months of pain and about 4 trips to the Doctors office (suspecting Bladder Infection ) I finally was sent to the hospital for test.
After 2 weeks and not hearing anything I assumed the test found nothing to be reported. But, There was alot of bloods in my urine and some pain so I went to the Doctor again.
Well, No wonder you are in pain as she read the results and told me I had over 20 Kidney Stones ( still in the Kidneys) with no blockage. She said I could go to the hospital if I wanted ,where the pain could be managed and also be seen by a uro right away, or for me to go to a urologist a.s.a.p. Well, I wasent in an awful lot of pain so I choose to seek a urologist. That was in early Jan, and the biggest mistake I could of made.
There is no such thing as seeing a uro right away, especially when you have state insurance. I was able to get a appointment the first week of Feb.
At my appointment the Uro did not have a copy of the test results (Do not assume that they will be faxed over with the referal), I told him what I knew and he sent me downstairs for a Xray. The xray showed only 1 stone about the size of a pea, he asked me some questions, never examined me and told me to come back in 6 weeks.
Well, Less than 2 weeks later Im in pain, but now its lower in my groin accompained with the constant urge to urinate, only not much comes out. I call this uroligist office, tell a nurse my symptons and that I beleive somethings wrong. I get a call back the next day where she suggest that I might have A BLADDER INFECTION, calls in a script for pain and moves my appointment up from April 3rd to March 14th. Woo Hoo !!!! ( Its now Feb24th).
A few days later, still in constant pain I go back to my Doctor, where she tests me for A BLADDER INFECTION !!! Of course, its negative. She tells me "Go see your urologist ASAP " and get a bladder scan, which she could of ordered herself.
Over the next week I call this F'N uro office, tell them over and over my symptons, ask if I can please see anyone, and wait for a return call. Then were in the weekend, still no return call. They finally call on Monday, but Im at work.
The next day, I cant take it anymore and I go to emergency. To make this long story short, The pea sized stone is lodged in my uretha. Im scheduled the next day to have a stint put in.
When I awake from surgery I find out that they were able to REMOVE the stone but also put in a stint. I never got to talk to the Doctors myself and know no details.
I had the surgery March 9th at 2:oo. I was discharged at 5:00 p.m. in more pain then all of the preceding months. Today is March 10th, 8:30 pm and still in constant pain, very bloody urine and no call from the Uro Surgent as my discharge papers said.
My parents were told that the stint should come out in a week, that it was a peice of cake and could be done at the Uros office.
Next Problem..... WHAT UROS OFFICE.???? The surgents at the hospital dont accept my insurance. So, Im back to square 1. ...In alot of pain, with no urologist.Do I call the F'N uro that wouldnt see me while the F'N stone was stuck....and hope that he will see me in a week, pray that he knows what hes doing as he removes this stint from hell.?? Do I go to the emergency room ?? After reading all the terrible stint removal stories here and on other sites, I AM A ABSOLUTE WRECK !!
I certainly feel for you. Don't know exactly what all they did but
my stint was put in after they pulverized my 17mm stone so that
the "gravel" could come out with little or no problem. Boy, I'd almost as soon take the pain of passing the little stones as to have a stint.
Worse two weeks of the ordeal. And the procedure left one chunk
that was 5.5mm. Too big to go through the stint. So guess what,
after the stint was removed, bang. 14hours of excruciating pain.
After this, it's 10-15 classes of water a day for me!
Anyway, the stint was an anoyance and it will get better. They remove it by just pulling it out. A short hot feeling and it was all
gone. The stint was kinda like hitting my head against a wall so
that I could stop and then feel better.
Oh, my urologist was a dream. Even got me a refund for some
of the payments that he decided shouldn't have been charged to me. So that part is probably a throw of the dice.
I hope you have better luck with this and can learn to laugh about it.
Robert
Hey Robert, When you said worse 2 weeks of the ordeal....Were you referring to the stint ? Did the stint cause pain the whole time it was in...and did you know for sure it was from the stint ????
They said they REMOVED a pea sized stone and installed a stint. That was Friday afternoon and I have been in pain ever sinse. I am takeing percoset every 4 hours as the prescribed Vicoden did little for the pain and makes me sick. Being that its the weekend I have not talked to anyone. It just dosent make sense. In the emergency room Consult, The uro said I WOULD FEEL BETTER after surgery.
Also, I dont see any strings......
Oh yeah, I meant the stint. I've had 7 previous small stones
so I knew a bit of what to expect. The stint was a continuous
pain that got a bit better after the first day. The worse thing
for me was the constant feeling of needing to go. The pain I could
handle. (masochistic bent don't ya know)
No string? hmmm, better ask the doc about that. My string was
a constant annoyance. "feel better after surgery..." well, it is after
the surgery now and yes I do feel better. However it was a good
thing I didn't run into the doc for the first two days. I would have
argued with him about that statement.
Well, I got the stint out yesterday. All and all it wasent as bad as I had expected. A total of about 2 minuets of pain and burning. Im just damm glad to have that thing out. It was 11 days of agony. Constant cramps, discomfort and needing to urinate. It was worse than the kidney stones themselfs. Today I feel just about normal, no pain or burning and I am returning to work tomorrow. Im so thankful I was able to get time off as I cannot imagine working while I had the stint in. I still have about 15 stones and I can only pray they pass on their own. I will avoid getting another stint at all cost on top of drinking as much water as I can tolerate. I also might look into some of these natural ads claiming to dissolve kidney stones (even though the uro says they dont work ). So, Good Luck To All Of You....Drink Water !!!!
Comment By Tony Hernandez, 3-29-07My poor, poor friends! I feel so sorry for you all! After having the procedure done to me as well on 3/29/07, and as for the, "Stint." Besides having a Fusion done on L5-S1, is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. To be honest, I would not even want my enemy to have the procedure done. As stated above, when you have to urinate, you have to go, sometimes you don't even have time to pull your pants down, right?? What I do, is carry a bucket with me at all times in the house, and of course I wear some real loose shorts. And when I say, "bathroom" everyone goes to another room. and of course, I know this may sound crazy, but I carry a little wash cloth with me, and put it in my mouth before urinating. It does help a little. Well, as a gentleman said earlier, God bless you all, and thanks for the tidbits of advice I picked up. And of course, knowing that I'm not alone.
Respectfully,
Tony Hernandez
DRINK LEMONADE! I HAVE IT ON RELIABLE AUTHORITY & EXPERIENCE THAT DRINKING LEMONADE - BETTER STILL 4-OZ OF PURE LEMON JUICE (MIX IT WITH THE LEMONADE) WILL KEEP THE STONES FROM FORMING. I have had at least three or four stones - passed one w/o surgery but still painful, then had a lipotripsy twice for the same stone. Second time had a bad reaction to the general anesthesia - gas formed under the diaphram causing simultaneous heartburn & hiccups plus the bladder would not contract - required a catheter for 7-days. It was traumatic. Since then, been drinking lemonade with lemon juice on my brother's advice + others who have had stones. I was told a new strone was forming when they blasted the last one, but 5-months later and X-ray shows the new stone is no longer there. The lemonade must have worked. Just in time for Easter - the stone was rolled away.
Comment By Sandra Hilson, 4-09-07OMG.....This is the worst kidney stones as you would have read
my experience about a year ago. Now I have this to contend with. Now they say I have ICU. Intersittius.....(sp). Which means I go to the bathroom all the time because the lining of my bladder is shot from all the kidney stones and adema. WHen they pulled the stint out last March, they didn't xray to see if there was any swelling took it out to soon and I got water backed up on my kidney. Now a year later.........I still go to the bathroom constantly,,,,,,,,,in horrible pain always on atiboidics and now they want me to try a new drug called.... Elmerion. This is suppose to repair the lining of your bladder which in my case seems to be damaged. Has anyone heard of this drug? My
blessing are with all of you that have had kidney stones. I'm not battling lymphoma cancer ontop of that, but nothing compares to the pain of kidney stones. Prayers to you all for healing.
Sandra
I, had a stent Friday now this is the following Wednesday and i can not see the strings anymore. Is this something to worry about?
Comment By Wisconsin Matron, 6-15-07Having had blood in my urine I ended up going to see a Urologist in April. The urologist did a cystoscopy and I had a CT scan. I was diagnosed with a kidney stone located in the kidney. Because it was located in the kidney he said to go home and drink lots of water and see what happens. Last Sunday, I was in huge pain on my right side and vomiting.I was also out of town. I went to the emergency room. They gave me drugs for the nausea and the pain.Called my urologist the next day who ordered a CT scan. The stone had moved. With lots of drugs, i made it home and went to the hospital for insertion of a stint with plans for blasting in a week. But YAY! the good doctor was able to grab the stone and remove it. He left the stint in. All was okay in the recovery room but then things got worse.Pain worse than childbirth. Legs shaking and major pain. They gave me morphine and vicodin..nothing. Then a Belladonna and opium sipository.whew finally relief. I am so grateful that the kidney stone is gone but the stint is very uncomfortable and I'm trying to keep ahead of the pain but at the same time balancing meds so I'm not too groggy. I think I'm going to just give up and stay groggy til the stint is removed. The nurse told me that most people go back to work the next day. I can't imagine. I am supposed to have the stint removed in a week. I think I will call tomorrow to have the appointment sooner. My doctor thinks the whole issue started with me getting dehydrated so I have learned that water intake is really important for me. I drink 2 liters before noon every day and then more throughout the day.It seems everyone should.
Comment By MD, 6-29-07Have any men out there ever had a stone get stuck in their urethra on its way out? I've passed over 30 stones in my lifetime, never had anything like that. I am 50. A few weeks ago, I had an attack, my gf drove me to the ER, I also had my 7-year old son with us. They diagnosed me with 2 stones & wanted me to stay there till I could pass the one that was close. 2 hours later, I found myself in a bathroom, standing over the pot, my Johnson in my hands, trying to aim it for the strainer, screaming as the stone came out! Meanwhile, my hot young gf & my son are waiting & they can hear my screams not far away. I can't believe that it passed so quickly, but did get stuck in my penis and then move again as I painfully urinated out the jagged rock.

I had an experience with a kidney stone as well. I will say that after I had a stent put in, the Dr. prescribed Pyridium for the burning sensation upon urination that I felt in my bladder. This TOTALLY took care of all the burning from the stent. You need to ask for this if you have a stent put in. It really helps. Good luck and God Bless Us kidney stone sufferers!! Submitted: 9-6-07.
Comment By Mona, 9-15-07My freind is going through this right now, I hate having to watch him go through all of the things you have been describing.Has anyone heard of a company that makes a product that breaks up kidney Stones with out surgery etc.., this thing with spending thousands of dollars on painful procedures that a lot of people don't have access to Sucks, if more people knew about the LEMONADE AND THE LEMON JUICE thing, the doctors would go broke so I guess they won't recommend that route to any one of the thousands of people who don't have, or can't afford Health Insurance. this website doesn't offer any alternate methods is it Me? or are you all so impressed with the medical practitioner's in this field that you aren't willing to try something that doesn't involve Thousands of dollars being spent, and some doctor telling you that its an easy procedure, or a nurse telling you how much pain you should be Having!!! its not their bodies going through this, the reality is that, EVERYONE! Responds differently to pain, Why does the Medical community persist in telling their patients how they will react to pain and ignore anyone who responds differently to pain or treat them with contempt?why don't they recommend, several over the counter remedies that are really out there OH sorry I forgot they wouldn't get your money then. OOPs my mistake, Doctors both good and bad, indifferent or otherwise are still just "mechanics" for the human Body or "Body Technitians"
if you like. I have nothing but sympathy for anyone who has had to go through this procedure, but is their any one who has found an over the counter remidy for this horrible pain that every one has had to go through?
Found one Online "Uriflow" natural way to disolve kidney stones anyone here of it
cost twenty bucks a month. hope it helps good luck\
Well I am sitting here in bed trying to figure out why all day I have felt like I have to pee so much.
Just read all these comments. My story is like this. Last November I woke up at about 4 a.m. with stronger than normal pain on the left side of my lower back. I had had aches back there for months but this was different. I went into the bathroom where I took a seat because I just couldn't stand. I started to urinate and about when I was done I was put to the floor by the most malicious pain ever. I had been thinking that I had a hernia prior to this. But now things were different. I was on the floor and I couldn't get up. I in so much pain, I was having trouble breathing. Finally it subsided and I went to a clinic that afternoon. I had insurance at the time so I went wherever I could get in quickly. I said I thought it might be a hernia. They checked and it was a no go. So then they asked for a urine sample and found blood. That made them think stones, so I got a CT scan soon after and they found 3 small stones in my right kidney. They told me to drink lots of fluids and to talk to a nutritionist which I did. They said if I caught a stone then they could tell for sure what it was made of but if not, that they could only treat it as though it is calcium carbonate, since they are the most prevalent.
Well i saw the nutritionist and they told me about the foods and drinks to stay away from. I always new that I didn't drink enough, as my urine was hardly ever clear, but the truth was that I just didn't like having to pee any more than I had to. I take no joy in spending an extre 12 minutes a day in the bathroom peeing 3 more times than I used to. Anyway, I talked to lots of folks about the lemon water and lemon juice thing. So sorry to hear that many of you didn't know this.
Anyway I was given a Flomax sample last year and used it the last two days once each morning because I have been feeling like I am going to pass a stone. I know I had movement a week ago Monday because I had pain in the urethra. Strangely almost all of my pain has been on the left though I was told that my stones were in my right kidney. I had blood a little bit last week and then a bunch this Monday. And now all day I have felt like I have to pee so I guess it is probably that the stone is in a volatile spot and my body wants it out? I hope its not a UTI because I don't have insurance anymore, let alone a job. Have been living on savings for a few months.
Anyway, I am not positive that I have ever actually passed a stone so I hope that is what this is this time and not a UTI.
Good luck to all and keep drinking your clear liquids.
OMG! It was so nice reading this. I have had a rough 6 months with my stones, havign to have mulitiple lithotripsys to crush them up enough. And the pain during the whole ordeal, terrible. I just got back a few hours ago from having my stent removed. Absolutely sucked. That was some serious pain for me. Not how I was informed that it would be very moderate. The jelly they used to suposedly numb it didnt do its job for sure. Anyhow a little while ago I thought i had to pee, went into the bathroom, sat down and jsut as it was about to start the pain was sooo intense (like razors or needles) i held it and left the room. Probably not a good idea but OMG... does this feeling last long? And if I hold for a while and chug some water should my next pee be good to go or the same terrible feeling??

That absuoltely sucks. Here's the deal... You need to call
your doctor and get a drug called phenazophyriden... nick name
pyridum. It turns your pee orange, but big time relief. I'm still on it ocassionaly. Don't hold it, you need to get rid of it. Also
stay away from anything acidy that you eat. No tomatoes
no juice only apple.... Keep the bladder free of acid... very important,.

My husband has been having a few drops of blood on and off for a week. The other night he passed a stone..Now he does not have any blood shows. He had this once before. Is there anything he can take or drink to flush the stones out. What is the difference between Kidney stones and Bladder stones. Any advise would be helpful.
Comment By shannon Colligan, 1-24-08Scared to death! I just found out that I have a 17mm kidney stone lodged in my kidney. The doc reccomended the shock wave machine and a stent. Can someone give me some positive feedback?
Comment By Robert, 1-24-08I had a 17mm stone broken up a year and a half ago. The procedure was ok. Wearing the stint for two weeks was the worse thing. And all the gravel that came out after they took the stint out. There was a three by five mm chunk that worked its way out. Mine was done by putting a tool up to the kidney. The thing I would ask about would the the size of the chunks. That one chunk was a bit painful.
Good Luck with it.
Hi all! I have a 3mm kidney stone that is right by my bladder opening on the left side. After reading all of your stories, it makes me more depressed. I have this tiny little stone and don't understand why it won't pass. I am so sorry all of you have gone through that pain and all. It sux!!! I went to a new urologist 2 days ago for a 2nd opinion. He put me on Flomax.
Anyone have luck with Flomax for passing their stone/s?
Als
part 2: I tried a ton of home remedies. I tried the lemon juice plain and with olive oil. I tried the coke and asparagus, I tried the jump method and also 3 weeks of Uriflow. NOTHING helped, NO change in my stone, verified by a CT SCan. I am hopeful the Flomax will help push this sucker to my bladder!!!! Does it hurt when it goes from the ureter to the bladder?
Comment By Steve, 2-04-08I too feel everyone's pain here. Stones run in my family. My dad has them, I'm blessed with them, and my son had his first a couple of years ago when he was 15. I had my first when I was about 11 and had no idea what was happening. In college I had one so bad that I couldn't even get to the phone 3 feet away to call 911. I've passed three this year and just had an IVP showing two more that may be too big to pass. I'll be going to have lipotripsy soon. I've always been able to pass them up until now. Talk to you doctor about how to adjust your diet to reduce or stop stones from forming. I used to get them about every year an a half, but after altering my diet I went 15 years with none! A year ago a tornoado hit my office and I've been rebuilding for the past year and started eating the wrong things again and now I'm paying for it.
Comment By Tiara, 2-10-08The doctor told me I had a mild urinary tract. The doctor treated me for it and it has gotted worse I'm passing blood now. What could this be? A kidney or bladder stone?
Comment By Robert, 2-10-08Have the dr take an x-ray. That will settle it. My guess is blood means a stone cutting its way out but I'm not a dr.
Once the stones get to the bladder, the pain stops. This was true for even the 3mmX5mm stone I passed after the break up of my 17mm stone.
I feel for all of you guys. I also have my Kidney stone story that has now lasted a little over 2 years. For the first year and 3 months I thought I had pulled something in the lower part of my back. The pain was more intense at night' but only when I tried to lay on my back or turn over. The first time that I went to a Dr was Dec 31,06 they found a small cist on my ovary' in which my Dr said it would soon just go away. About 5 months passed and I saw my Dr. at dinner one evening and she asks me to come back and have another ultrasound done to check on the cist. So I made the appointment for the first week June of 07. The Ultrasound was done and my Dr. said the sist was gone but she was very concerned on what she had seen with my left Kidney, and she wanted me to go to see a Dr in Grand Cayman, I live on a small Island called Cayman Brac. We have a very small hospital here, and very understaffed, and not any kidney Dr's, and the helth care'well let me just say this: bla bla bla. So anyway I made an appointment with a Dr. in Grand Cayman, and then I booked a flight to Grand Cayman the next week. The Dr. I saw in Grand Cayman and to make a long story shorter he said from the X Rays you had take on Cayman Brac looks like you have something blocking your urinary tract' and they look like 2 tumors. Now get this, he then put me under and ran the dye. When I came to, I was jerking all over, and puking everywhere. They told me I was having a reaction to the dye. Ok... then I had to stay 3 extra days. They ran test, and more test, on the second day the Dr. came to my bedside with news that devastated me to know end. He said you have cancer of the kidney and it will have to be removed. I just looked at him and started crying. He left my room and I sit there on the bed in total devastation. Then I got to thinking, how could he say that I have cancer without a biopsy. I could still hear he was in the hallway, so I jumped up and found him and ask him "did you do a biopsy? He said no' but everything he saw pointed to cancer. I was so scared. I called my husband and told him what the Dr had said, and ask him how can he know I have cancer without a biopcy? My husband said I don't know honey, but we are going to find out, and we are going to make it though all of this. So I went back to the Brac the next day and the same Dr. in Grand Cayman made an appointment in Tampa Florida at the Moffitt Cancer Research Center. "What a great place, and people there are out of this world. BUT I couldn't get an appointment for 5 weeks, which was the first week in Aug 07. The pain was getting so bad with what was blocking my urinary tract, and backing up my urine urinary tract infections and I also had blood in my urine. . My kidney was swollen under pressure with backed up urine, and the cortex was twice its normal size. That showed up on the first X Ray they did on the Brac. I was in so much pain; I was popping pain pills, and antibiotics. When I got to the Moffitt center I was really scared. I had lost 18 pounds in the 5 weeks of worry. To make another long story shorter the Dr I had at the Moffitt Center ran a scope up though my urinary tract and to beat all odds I was told when I came to' that I had two 4mm stones blocking my urinary track and that they were removed. I was shocked I started crying for joy, that I didn't have cancer. They punt a stint in for 5 days, the pain pills; antibiotics were administered for 10 days straight. I was in Florida a total of 3 and half weeks. Well I got back to Cayman Brac around the week in Sep 07. I was pain free, but only for 2 days, and then all the same pain hit me again. I didn't know what to think, other than' maybe they missed a stone. My next appointment at the Moffitt center wasn't until Dec 18th 07, and that was really to be just a follow-up. I put off calling anyone for 2 weeks; I guess I was just hoping the pain would just go away. But it didn't. So I broke down and called the Moffitt Center. I told my Dr's Nurse what was happening, and how long it had been happening, I could tell she was very upset and concerned that I had not called her sooner. She told me she would have my Dr. call me with in the hour. He called and asks me how soon I could get a flight to there, and then he quickly said could you be here by this coming weekend. I told him yes. He sounded so concerned. When I got there they did all the same things that they had done the first time with the first two stones. This third stone was a 4 and half mm..... All three were way to large to pass on their own. They put another stint in, and this time the Moffitt Dr wanted to leave it in for 5 weeks. I had all the same pains though out the times I had both stints in. It felt as if the stints gave the same pain as when I had the stones. So I had more pain' at least for 5 more weeks, I thought!! I came home to the Brac, 3 days after Christmas. By Feb 3rd 08 I had the second stint removed, and I was pain free for around 3 days. Then bang all the same pains hit me again. Now it’s March 18th 08 and I am about to give birth to another Kidney stone, this one is the biggest yet. I have had now 2 sonograms here on the Brac. The first sonogram was done about 4 weeks ago, and it said at that time this 4th stone is 7mm. I had another sonogram Friday of last week, and it said now it is a 8mm stone, unless they missed sizing it the first time around! So the way I look at this stone, since I couldn’t pass the first three because they would get stuck at 4mm’s’ then I know all to well that this 8mm is going to cause more trouble. I can tell you this much it has hurt me a lot more than all the other three stones did. I just called Tampa today, and made an appointment to see another Dr. that the Moffitt center has referred me too! I got a recording when I called and hope to get a call back soon. I did hear from the Moffitt Center that this new Dr. has no appointments available until after April 1st. I hope I can hold out that long with all this pain, and hope it doesn’t drop into my tube and get things backed up again or cause me any more infections.
Wish me luck guys, and I sure hope this is the last one! There is one good thing about this story, and that is: I do give thanks to the one on high that this was not cancer.

Well, I guess I'll weigh in. I've had a history with kidney stones for the past 8 years. All of them been small enough to pass at home on my own without too much pain. The first couple were the worst. 4 years ago I had a 6mm stone and underwent lithotripsy to break it up into smaller pieces to pass. No stint was used. I went home same day, had blood and stone fragments in my urine for about a day afterwards and then it was pretty much back to normal other than some slight soreness in my back from the procedure. Even this cleared up within another day or so.
Since then I've passed 4-5 stones at home without any incident at all. Last month I was having some pretty intense kidney pains again, went in for a CT scan, and it showed that I had two 7.5mm stones making their way to my bladder from my right kidney.
I was told I needed to get them removed as soon as possible since I have a history of stones. Last Friday I underwent Laser Lithotripsy, and they were able to remove all the stones. A stint was put in place to help with swelling and allow for urine flow.
I was told to remove the stint in the shower yesterday morning (Sunday) - one of the worst experiences of my life. The pain was about on par with passing the stone.
Since I've removed the stint - things have been up and down. Yesterday I felt pretty good most of the day, until late afternoon when I had a pain attack in my right kidney. I chalked this up to swelling and irritation and kept drinking fluids.
Today (Monday) has been torture. I was awakened at 5AM by intense pain in my right kidney and I've been peeing blood clots all day long.
The worst part is that my urologist nor surgeon thought it would be necessary to give me any pain killers. I'm in agony today, just hoping that I'm not experiencing additional complications that will require another stint.
IN SEPTEMBER OF 2005 I HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE
OF SEVERE PAIN IN MY RIGHT SIDE. I HAVE HAD TWO KIDNEY STONES BEFORE SO RECOGNIZED THE PAIN. WAITED MOST OF
THE NIGHT IN ER UNTIL FINALLY TAKEN AND TESTS MADE. ER
DOCTOR TOLD ME I HAD A SMALL STONE. THEN UROLOGIST COMES IN AND SAYS I HAVE A LARGE STONE AND RIGHT KIDNEY WAS BLOCKED COMPLETELY. THEY STARTED ME ON ANTIBIOTICS FOR THE INFECTION FROM BLOCKAGE. THIS WAS ON SATURDAY NIGHT. MONDAY MORNING I WAS TAKEN TO SURGERY AND HAD STENT INSERTED BY A THIRD DOCTOR. HE
SAID HE COULDN'T FIND A STONE AT ALL. AFTER GETTING THAT
KIDNEY DRAINED AND THE INFECTION CLEARED UP I WENT HOME.
THREE MONTHS LATER I WENT IN FOR A CHECK -UP BECAUSE THE
DOCTOR WAS AFRAID THAT I HAD DAMAGED THAT RIGHT KIDNEY AND THERE WERE 3 LITTLE SPOTS THAT HE COULDN'T IDENTIFY
BECAUSE I HAVE HAD BACK SURGERY AND HAVE A LOT OF HARD
WARE IN MY BACK. SO HE PUT IN ANOTHER STINT. THIS WAS
DONE ON WEDNESDAY AND ON SUNDAY MORNING I TRIED TO GETOUT OF BED AND FELL HALF WAY ACROSS THE ROOM. I HAD
LOST COMPLETE BALANCE. THEY REMOVED THE STINT THE NEXT
WEEK BUT I STILL HAVE NO BALANCE. I NOW USE A CANE OR A
WALKER AND HAVE FALLEN SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS NOT
CAREFUL ENOUGH. I HAVE HAD 5 MRI'S AND TWO OTHER TESTS
BY A NEUROLOGIST BUT HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN AN ANSWER YET.
UROGOLIST SAYS STINTS CAN'T CAUSE THIS. BUT I CAN'T FIND
ANYTHING ELSE SO HAS ANYONE HAD A BALANCE PROBLEM FROM A STINT THE THE URINARY TRACK? I HAVE NO PAIN FROM THIS
JUST CAN'T WALK WITHOUT AID.
Hi Everyone,
This is a follow up from my story above:
Well I had another stone removed. They did laser on this stone. In my story above I had told everyone that the Kidney stone was 7mm but after I got to Florida it turned out it was much larger than what the Doctors here on Cayman Brac had said. This last stone' (Which I hope is my last) was a 9.5mm.. I am now back home on the Brac. BUT just as before the pain has started back again, it started back only 2 days after I got home. What I am not understanding is' when the Doctors take a light and scope up into my Kidney, and laser blasted a 9.5mm stone, how come they didn't see another stone when the lighted scope what up in my kidney? It just doesn't make any sense to me how a Doctor can miss seeing another stone in there. Unless they just want me coming back for MORE insurance money. NOW I have to go thought all this pain again with another stone.which I know is there because I recognize the same pain as before with the other stones. I have now only been back home less than a week, and like before I am just hoping it will just go away. Ya right!! BUT with all the other stones I have had in the past, it sounds like I am just wish-full thinker. When will all this end?
Gypsy.
Gypsy-I have had numerous kidney stones and two (Extracorporeal Shock Wave) lithotripsies to date. I know from experience that kidney stones practically glow on an x-ray. Why are they not x-raying you and I haven't seen the work lithotripsy in your experience anywhere. I do know that a bad urologist can cause more harm than good-I've been through that as well. It sounds to me that perhaps you should seek a second or third opinion until you get better results. The fact that your episodes are just days apart makes it seem as though someone is not being thorough or something!
Comment By John, 6-19-08I have had many stone from the age of 18 I am now 51, back then the litho. had not been invented so after cutting on me twice and removing 1/4 of my kidney I am very thankful for the current treatment. my last and current episode I had 5 stones (this makes the total over 20) in my left kidney that were blocking urine flow which completely shut down my kidney, after the emergency room visit, the next day under general anst. they put in a stint to allow the kidney to function which reduced the swelling, 3 days later under general anst. again they did litho which broke up the stones, the stint has been a real pain,I am having it removed after 7 days and constant nagging to my doctors office. in my case it had to be put in or face losing my kidney, but I hope I never have one again.
Comment By frank, 7-12-08Please help been battling the same symptoms of kidney stones they wanted to do the stent thing i refused twice.I have been trying to pass it on my own feels like it is stuck in the shaft of my penis. Is that possible and what should i do all these stories sound bad.
Comment By Sue, 7-12-08Frank-find a good urologist and do what he tells you to do. You could lose function of a kidney or worse!
Comment By rick, 7-16-08Well started out getting sick and throwing up. Took a two hour nap and decided to take my beagle dogs for a run and by the time i got down over the hill it hit me. Couldnt hardly make it back to house. The nurse said for me to get to er said it was a stone, Well I spent 8 hrs in er two hrs to get in which was the worst pain you could imagine. I threw up outside and inside in the bathroom in the er. Finally i got into the room and told the nurse in needed pain medice now. Once they put in a iv and shot me with medicine it was so much better. Mine was 4 c and he said i could go home or next do see a urologist so i went home to see if i could pass it. Well 3 days later and on major pain medicine i did not pass it. So went to see urologist and took more test and he said it had not moved in 3 days that he would send me over to have this machine not sure what its called but it would bust up the stone. Well its been 3 days later and im back to work but im still peeing blood and still hurts at times. He said i have couple more in my kidney that wasnt giving me trouble right now but maybe later. So i didnt have a stint so maybe im lucky so far. For some reason i dont think this is over with. If they were all busted up and i shouldve past them by now. I have got two little rocks since im straining my pee. Why is the kidney still hurting. not as bad and im not on as much pain medicine now. I feel for anyone that has a stone
Comment By Sandra, 7-16-08Rick:
You need to ge another opinion right away. I went thru
similar experience and they almost killed me.
The doctor removed my stint too soon and I had horrible
pain in my kidney that I thought had resolved itself.
In fact, the pain was coming from water backing into my
kidney because the flow of urine was backing up.
I had to have another stint put back in to resolve it.
It sounds like you need another fast opinion and get someone to listen to you about the pain. It is not normal. Most of the doctors are a holes that think they know it all.
Dont wait too long, because it could do major damage to your kindey.
Sending you much blessings,
San
Rick,
You just had a foreign object placed in your kidney. That will make things sore for a while.
After lipotrypsy, most of the stones were removed during the procedure, while you were anesthesized. Your stones are measured in mm. Mine was 8 mm and was considered huge. The are probably more, smaller stones still in your kidney. Continue to drink lots of water.
I was surprised that you did not get a stint. I had two lipo's from two different urologists at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. These are among the best doctors in the world.
Peeing blood is normal. Be sure to take the medicine that prevents infection, (turns your urine orange).

Comment By Jeeper, 9-19-08As I write this I am awaiting the birth of my first stone. It's a healthy 6mm. In the hospital the nurse asked my wife why she had a smile on her face. She replied,"Now he knows what it's like to give birth". (I'm gonna miss her after the divorce :D)
I am so happy that I stumbled across this website and read all of your comments. They have answered questions, made me chuckle, and, in some cases, scared the crap out of me. All was necessary and appreciated. Thanks for posting.
Today is Friday. My stent comes out on Monday. Lithrotripsy is scheduled for next Wednesday. I feared the stent removal would be painful because every time I've touched the string, or gotten an erection for that matter, the pain has been excruciating.
I'd like to post some random thoughts based on my experiences thus far:
- The drug used to stop the "burning" during urination has only
been effective for me when I drink large quantities of water.
This makes you dependent upon having a bathroom within 10
or so AT ALL TIMES!!
- Like some of you have said, Drs are a poor source of informa-
tion in regards to nutrition and preventing future attacks. Does
anyone know if the LEMON JUICE thing works? Are there any
exercises one can do to help pass a stone?
- In my time I've broken bones, tore up both shoulders and a
knee to the point of requiring reconstruction, have herniated
disks in both my upper and lower back and, in general, have
lived through some pretty painful experiences. But the pain
that's accompanied this stone TRUMPS THEM ALL! I've been
there and done that.
I'll follow up next week as the mood strikes. Any constructive comments would be appreciated.
Scary stories about stones !!!! I had similar situations, lithotripsy, fragment getting stuck in the ureter, hospitalized with pain medication that did not work. Stent placed for 2 horrible weeks etc... Now after 2 weeks of stent removal, my body is still weak, I have insomnia, lost weight and is giving me anxiety even though the worst may be over??? I had my medical doc order more lab work, urine analysis etc... just in case Has anyone experienced this aftermath???
Comment By WALTER, 5-05-10i had lipotrypsy done 3 times to no avail. happened to be in a car accident and the car bag going off caused me to pass the damn rock. now i find out that the lipo. treatment can cause diabetes, high blood pressure and back pain. the lipo. works on the pancreas and that causes diabetes.plus you know any thing that can break rocks in you can also do your back no good. i did not have back pain or diabetes before my lipo. treatment my best wishes to all. walter
