New Mexico’s Women Boxers Duke it Out

Today's New York Times has a great piece on Espanola boxer Monica Lovato (far right) Lovato's career has recently taken off, and she's now ranked sixth in her weight class by the World Boxing Council. She fights in Las Vegas on February 6.

Boxing has long roots in New Mexico, and Lovato isn't the only woman who's beginning to make a name for herself and her state. In December, Holly Holm, a welterweight mostly-local boxer defeated highly-ranked Mia St. John at Isleta Casino on December 5.
