Idaho Strip Bar Patrons Not Quite Quick Enough on the Draw

By Greg Cohn, 4-06-05

So apparently the Erotic City Gentleman's Club of Boise, Idaho, wasn't fooling anyone when they tried to get around a city ordinance against nudity by claiming they were hosting an "art night". Here at New West, we're all in favor of art nights -- which apparently merit an exception to the Boise rule, but only if the artisitic expression is "serious" enough.

In a sequence of events sure to be the subject of high-spirited debate among free-expression-loving young law students everywhere, the art night was called, pencils and sketch pads were handed out, but, lo and behold, the patrons couldn't draw for shit. So the patrons fail the art quiz, and, naturally enough, the cops busted the strippers.

Hey, at least we know you read New West for the articles. [End of article]

Art pad and pencil or no, this New West reader is always in favor of STRIP nights.

Btw, Its a great feat of mental acumen if a man at a strip club can draw something even as simple as chicken scratch while watching a pole dance.

I personally know Chris Teague, he is always trying to figure out ways to do illegal things to make money, and try to weasel out of trouble once caught.

I personally drew alot of those pictures and I'm an art student and a stripper, and I know alot of them had seriou artistic merit. Therfore, Chris' Art Night was legal and the police will be surprised when nudity laws are banned as unconstitutional.

Comment By Brandon Shira, 3-27-06

You may have drew a lot of those pictures, and far from me to deny anyone from having legal forms of expression, but it was deemed illegal, and was SHUT DOWN for this reason. I seriously doubt the courts in Idaho will find THIS form of artistic merit constitutional. Go to the park and draw a duck or something useful.

I think it should be illegal to surpress my nudity. I think I should have the right to take off whatever and have whoever look at me. The most drawn (and worshipped,)thing is the female body, in the whole of the our world. Ducks just aren't impressive. The constitution promotes free speech and there are cases in which precedents were passed, in other states. He may have lost in court yesterday but it won't stop him. He'll take it to the supreme court if need be, and need is. Boise is waay too straight edge and if we did what the mormons wanted all the time, we'd be even wearing clothes to bed. Personally when I get home I'm a nudist. I don't like to be stifled. When it comes to my body, I should be able to choose. The people who don't want nudity don't HAVE to go to strip clubs.

The thing is- Chris Teauge did this. He PLANNED for each thing that has happened up till now. Larry Flynt didn't change the world by sitting on his ass, he had to make a little trouble before the right course of action could be taken, and THEN the laws can be smashed. And he's never weasled. This is the way to work the system. He didn't even get a fine, the GIRLS did, and he can probably pay their fines nightly, yet, he DID shut it down. He happens to be taking the right course of action, go just a bit further to appeal the ruling in the supreme court and then maybe Boise can show it's ass without being cited.

Nobody wants you to supress your nudity, go to your home and be nude all you want. Hire a model to pose nude in the privacy of your own home, or one of the escorts from AAA Anytime escort service in one of the motel rooms in back of wallmart here in Boise. Take this to the supreme court, and they will just make an example of how to squash an annoying little insect, just like the Boise weekly says.

Comment By boisean, 4-05-06

I agree with artist- people in other states get to be nude, why can't we?

Comment By Artist, 4-05-06

He who slings mud has no ground to stand on. An annoying little insect such as this may be the ticket to changing Boise's laws. I plan to write the judge. Who's with me?
No wonder you're concerned, Mormon. Apparently a stripper has more intelligence of debate. Not only that, but one insect breeds a thousand, and your concern may grow into worry!

Comment By Another Boisean, 4-11-06

I don't feel like the stripper had more intelligence of debate over the mormon. I feel the Mormon had a very good point. Maybe, Idaho making it so very hard to buy into fornication, and or unecessary nudity, is one of the great many reasons that make this state such a wonderful place for all of us to live, and raise our children. Like the artist defending these good points said: " one insect breeds a thousand" so, hopefully the courts in Idaho will squash this insect before it has the oppertunity to breed, and ruin THIS state like the others that allow this kind of activity.

If you don't want to, you don't have to go into these sorts of establishments. Personally I think those "jack off booths" are ten times worse than seeing and drawing a beautiful naked woman. Why don't we fight to ban those, and give those who want to "bare all" their constitutional right to do so behind closed doors. No MORE strip clubs can come to Boise, the ones we have are grandfathered in. Letting us dance naked would drive up the age of the dancer, (currently you can work in these "juice bars" when you're 19, to be able to wear a "whole" bakini you have to work at a 21 and over BAR) and there still wouldn't be alcohol. There would also probably be a set distance between customer and dancer.

How did the mormon know where business with the escort agency was conducted? Maybe he's less concerned than hipocritical. "AAA Anytime escort service in one of the motel rooms in back of wallmart here in Boise" The "art night" may have been "deemed" illegal, but there are other courts in other states who have already set precedents... It's only a matter of time, Boise will be full-nude.

Comment By Concerned Mormon, 4-17-06

I knew where the escorts' business is being conducted, because I am one of three private investigators hired by the church to work on this whole scandal because they don't feel like the local police have done enough on this.

Comment By Artist, 4-24-06

It seems a private investigator would know how to spell "Wal-Mart"
