Joe Friedrichs grew up on the rolling cornfields of north Iowa and started writing for newspapers at age 15. He graduated from the University of Montana School of Journalism Class of 2005 with something he likes to call “the most ridiculous transcript ever assembled.”
He spent the first 16 months following graduation writing for a bi-weekly on the Oregon Coast. Eventually the ferocious winds and mind-blowing rain storms drove him back to the mountains where he currently takes refuge in the Cascades. Friedrichs has a deep interest in environmental issues, and has done stories ranging from bogus Measure 37 claims to the future of Oregon’s Rogue River.
He also once spent an entire night on assignment deep in the Siskiyou Mountains with a team of crazed scientists on a hunt for Bigfoot.
