Jennifer moved to Missoula for the first time in 1996. She needed a break from life in the South (she never was a very good Southern belle) so she picked Missoula because she thought it would be completely different from her small Southern town. And it was, beautifully. During the semester she lived here, she learned to drink lattes at Butterfly Herbs and ski under the lights at Snowbowl. When she left that summer she knew she'd be back. It only took six years. With a fresh master's degree in literary nonfiction from the University of Oregon and a new partner up for adventure, she loaded up a 1984 Toyota van with books and a futon and came back to Missoula. She's been here ever since writing, teaching and working for Missoula nonprofits. In the five years since she's been back, she and her partner Seth decided to stay, got married in the field behind their house and, this summer, welcomed their first daughter, Eliza June, home. They all live on a small farm at the base of the Mission Mountains in Arlee with a goat named Barb, two country dogs and a handful of wayward chickens.
