Missoula Notebook: A new arrival’s notes on settling in to Missoula.
Sutton Stokes is a freelance writer and editor. He moved to Missoula from Baltimore in late 2007 when his wife got her dream job at the university here. A recovering city slicker/damn flatlander, Sutton is enjoying skiing Pattee Canyon and Lolo, exploring Glacier, learning about bears and other things that can eat you, and road-tripping around the state. Every now and then, he can’t help just stopping and staring at the mountains. Missoula Notebook chronicles his experiences and impressions as he gets to know this strange and wonderful place, with some other other subjects mixed in for variety. His non-Missoula interests include — among other things, and in no particular order — new ideas, overlooked movies, true crime, newspaper comics, music that tells us something essential and true, tales of adventure on the high seas, and the good and bad in all of us. Sutton has also worked as a bartender, outdoor science educator, security guard, education researcher, and health policy analyst, and he served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard.
