Here at NewWest.net we are excited to be working with the Sustainable Business Council (SBC) on an enhancement to their new Buy Local initiative and our new Buy Local blog.

Check out the recently launched Buy Local Blog (and soon to be added Green Gift Guide) at http://www.newwest.net/buylocal. The articles cover the impact of shopping locally, show how dollars spent with local businesses are recycled into our community much more than when shopping with businesses owned out-of-state, the importance of continued support of downtown economic centers, and much more.

In addition to coverage about buying locally, NewWest.net will allocate 20% of in-kind advertising to the SBC for every $1000 that is spent with NewWest.net by SBC members.  This will allow them to further their Buy Local campaign, increase visibility and promotion of their members, and educate the public.

As you plan for the holidays and 2009, note the following factoids:

* The Internet is now the most consumed media, even surpassing TV, and is the only media that reaches a critical mass of people during the workday (i.e. peak usage of the Internet is during the workday).

* Over $120 Billion spent online during the holidays in 2007. (source: NYT 12/28/07)

* Webster’s Word of the Year in 2007 was Locavore ("a person who attempts to eat only foods grown locally") and the trend towards local commerce is only growing more and more.

Through creative media partnerships with our customers NewWest.net is pleased to continue supporting our locally owned, independent businesses.  Thank you for your continued support of us.
