Loveland's "Ski Hooky Days" Begin on Dec. 11
Play Hooky
By Carson Bennett, 12-10-08
Loveland doesn’t seem to get enough love from the general Colorado powder-hound population. Everyone who skis or boards here knows Loveland – it’s on I-70 West, right before the Eisenhower Tunnel. It’s the one you look at through the windshield and say, “Someday I’m going to check this place out,” right before you speed past, yet again, on your way to Breckenridge, Keystone, or Vail. Friends, the day has come to try out Colorado’s oldest locally owned and operated mountain, dubbed “Best Locals Mountain” by Westword Magazine. On Thursday, December 11, play hooky at Loveland.
That’s right. Just like the good old days when you faked a fever and a cough and looked pitifully up at your parents saying, “I just don’t feel good,” longing for the moment when they would head off to work so you could take a childhood “me day” drinking Gatorade and watching Bob Barker croon into that weird skinny microphone on The Price is Right. On Thursday, Coloradoans, call into work with your best scratchy voice. Cough right into the phone if you have to, because December 11 is the first annual “Ski Hooky Day” at Loveland.
Ski Hooky Days sponsored by Denver’s 95.7 KPTT FM “The Party” radio station begin this week and continue on as yet unannounced Thursdays throughout the season. Check out their website, sign up as a registered listener, and you could win a $10 full-day lift ticket for Loveland, including access to the Coors Banquet après-ski party. (You have to be 21 to register).
With a 45-inch base and more on the way, Loveland currently boasts the most snow in Colorado. Go dredge up your best sick-day stories, dump your gear in the car, and I’ll see you on the mountain.
