Welcome to Big Sky Resort

By Special Advertiser, 2-25-08

Big Sky Resort consists of three mountains covering 3,812 acres, providing plenty of room to explore and have fun.  From the easiest greens to white knuckle black diamonds to wide-open powder fields Big Sky has something for everyone.

Big Sky Resort’s interconnect with neighbor Moonlight Basin provides access to the most skiable terrain anywhere in the United States. The Lone Peak Pass offers over 5,500 acres of riding at your board tips. Lone Peak’s 11,166-foot elevation makes it a haven for powder and steeps and the 4,350 vertical drop will have your legs screaming for mercy.

Big Sky consists of over 150 named runs on three peaks.  Over 40 percent of the terrain is considered beginner and intermediate while close to 60 percent leans toward the advanced to expert categories.  However with nearly 4,000 acres available you can find terrain to fit any level of ability. The addition of the 15 passenger Lone Peak Tram in 1995 put Big Sky on the map, and it was quickly recognized as an expert’s playground.  Nail-biting chutes, drops and powder fields lead you off the peak into tree runs and cruisers.

The addition of the new Dakota Chairlift this year, coupled with the opening of 200 acres in the Dakota Territory last season, make lift-accessible backcountry style skiing a reality.  With a partner, shovel and transceiver you can challenge the Big Couloir, or purchase a Lone Peak Pass to take on the North Summit Snowfields.

With an uphill capacity of 25,000/hour and crowds less than a quarter of that, Big Sky Resort is consistently recognized in national ski magazines for its short or non-existent lift lines and un-crowded slopes.  Meaning you can still catch fresh lines after enjoying a leisurely breakfast.

If you are more into freestyle then check out our superpipe and two terrain parks.  A smaller park located under the Swift Current chair is full of hits, hips, rails and lips and the larger park for those that feel the need to go big or go home.  After styling the parks, drop into the superpipe as the majestic Lone Peak watches over you in the distance.

The Mountain Village is happening, enjoy the Tube Park or check out some of the great events and musical talent scheduled for the season. Have a great time on the mountain and experience the wide-open spaces, steeps and groomers that make Big Sky a place all your own.
