Charter Plane Crashes Near Butte, Kills 14
By Courtney Lowery, 3-22-09
The Associated Press is reporting that a chartered plane crashed near Butte this afternoon, just short of the runway, killing 14 people, including numerous children.
From the AP story:
Spokesman Mike Fergus says the single engine turboprop plane departed from Orville, Calif., and that the pilot had filed a flight plan showing a final destination of Bozeman.
A witness tells the Montana Standard in Butte that the plane was turning angles before going into a nose dive into the Holy Cross Cemetery near the airport.
Fergus says the plane was registered to an Enterprise, Oregon company and “We think that it was probably a ski trip for the kids.”
The Standard also has raw video footage of the wreckage.
