Flathead Lake Brewing Wins “People’s Choice” at Montana Beer Festival

Flathead Lake Brewing, nestled away up at Wood’s Bay on its namesake, Flathead Lake, won the big prize at the second annual Montana Beer Festival, held April 11 in Bozeman for Rising Sun Espresso Porter.

The participants of the beer fest decide the People’s Choice Awards. At the gate, everybody received a ballot with their tasting glass and rated the brews as they sampled the 85 craft beers throughout the evening.

Great Northern Brewing of Whitefish won second with its Wild Huckleberry Lager and Madison River Brewing of Belgrade and Harvest Moon Brewing of Belt shared third place with Irresistible Amber Ale and Beltan White, respectively.

The beer fest also had official judging by professionals in six categories, including Montana Best Beer, and the winners are:

Best Montana Beers: Bozone Hopzone, Harvest Moon Beltan White, Bitter Root Nut Brown Ale.

Amber: MacTarnahan’s Amber Ale, Madison River Irresistable Amber Ale, Bozone Select Amber Ale.

Wheat: Madison River Yellow Humpy Hefe, Bozone Hefeweizen, Red Lodge Hefeweizen.

Porter: Carter’s Black Magic Porter, Bozone Blum St. Porter, Kettlehouse Olde Bongwater Porter.

Stout:Grand Teton Imperial Stout, Lone Peak Hippy Highway Oatmeal Stout, Montana Brewing Custer’s Last Stout.

IPA: Bozone Hopzone IPA, Red Lodge Bent Nail IPA, Full Sail IPA.
