Haven’t Heard? Boise State Win Grips Town
By Jill Kuraitis, 1-02-07
Just in case you haven't heard, which in Boise means you had your hands over your ears going "LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU," last night the Boise State University football team beat the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl, 43 - 42.
In Boise, the BSU story overshadows other life as we know it. It was a magical night for Boise, and today promises more joyous hysteria. The BSU players are due home sometime today, and the location of a parade is now being hotly debated. Will it be Capitol Boulevard, in a traditional march to the Statehouse steps? Or Broadway, which leads from the airport directly to the BSU campus? If last night's spontaneous party at the intersection of 6th and Main Streets is any example, the turnout should be, well, big.
This morning's Idaho Statesman devoted its entire front page to a ginormous photo of star quarterback Jared Zabransky, with the headline "Believe." The front page of the Sports Section is equally wild, saying "Sweet," with enough stories about the game it's hard to believe there is that much to be said, but each has a different take.
But it WAS an amazing game - the experts are validating that with superlatives - even for this I-Don't-Get-The-Whole-Football-Thing writer. It was a stomach-churning, nail-biting, show-of-passion game with enough ups and downs to make a person woozy. The Broncos' final two plays, which real sports writers call a "hook and lateral" and "The Statue" were astonishing and made persons in this non-footballish household gasp and shout. Then when Ian Johnson dropped to one knee and proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend, who accepted with an excited "Yes" into a reporter's microphone, we did a chorus of "Ahhhhs."
Yep, it's going to be quite a day in Boise, Idaho.

Here's the latest from the Bronco PR office:
What: Arrival of Bronco players and coaches
When: Between 3:45 and 4 p.m. today
Where: Nicholson-Yanke Athletic Center
Buses carrying some Boise State football coaches and players are expected to arrive at the Nicholson-Yanke Athletic Center, located on the south side of Bronco Stadium next to the football offices, today between 3:45 and 4 p.m.
Fans wishing to greet the team are asked to gather at the Nicholson-Yanke Center, not the Boise airport.
Fans are also reminded that most of the players went home directly from Arizona for the remainder of the holiday break, and only a small number of players are returning to Boise today.
Plans to publicly honor the Bronco football team, which defeated Oklahoma in Monday’s Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and finished the season unbeaten, will be announced at a later date.
