Hey Big Spender: Bill Richardson, the democratic candidate has spent the most money on advertising, reports yesterday’s New York Times blog, The Caucus. So far he’s spent $2 million in television advertising in Iowa and New Hampshire, for a total of 3,780 spots, said Evan Tracey, the chief operating officer of the Campaign Media Analysis Group, in a Times interview. And in Q3 fundraising totals, Richardson garnered $5.2 million. The Los Angeles Times, notes that there’s money, and then there’s cash. As John McCain proved earlier in the year, fundraising only helps a candidate when the checks get deposited.
Guv or Candidate: From time to time, the presidential path can take Richardson far from his “day job” as Governor of New Mexico. John Fleck and Jeff Jones, both Albuquerque Journal reporters, note in an article in Hispanic Business that Richardson’s plan to slash the national nuclear weapons budget, if elected, would affect hundreds of workers in the state of New Mexico. The nuclear weapons industry in New Mexico employs 22,000 people. Richardson recently a letter to congress protesting a possible 3.2 percent cut, which could potnetially have an impact on Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, based in Albuquerque and Los Alamos, respectively.
