Ballot Measures
John Edwards to Visit Montana for Minimum Wage Rally
By Matthew Frank, 7-27-06
Near veep, former North Carolina Senator, and potential 2008 Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will be coming to Montana for a Raise Montana rally on Tuesday, August 8th. Edwards will be talking about Montana’s minimum wage fight, perhaps part of a larger stump speech should he be eyeing the presidency.
The free event is taking place at the State Capitol Steps in Helena at 1 pm. Edwards will be joined by musical guest Amy Martin.
Raise Montana is a coalition working to gain support for an increase in Montana’s minimum wage. It led the way gathering signatures to insure that Initiative 151, which would amend Montana state law to bump up the minimum wage from $5.15 to the greater of either $6.15 per hour or the federal minimum wage, would be on November’s ballot.
