Schools in the Rocky Mountain West snagged four of the eight slots in a new list of the best American colleges for winter enthusiasts compiled by U.S. News & World Report.
The list steers students looking for a place to combine higher education with skiing or snowboarding toward these schools in the Rockies:
The University of Montana in Missoula for offering “dogsled races, downhill and cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling all within a short distance of the campus,” and also for Missoula’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
The University of Colorado in Boulder for its access to “world-class ski and snowboarding resorts.”
The University of Utah in Salt Lake City for being located within 40 minutes of seven ski resorts and for receiving “hundreds of inches of dry snow a year.”
The University of Wyoming in Laramie for its proximity to two nearby Wyoming ski hills as well as several slopes in Colorado.
Sierra Nevada College near Lake Tahoe also earned a spot on the list. Three New England schools also won recognition: Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.; Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt.; and Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
What other schools in the Rockies deserve a place on the list? Are Boise State, Colorado State and Brigham Young University worthy destinations for snow lovers? Add your suggestion in the comment section below.
