The gavel was banged, but the Democratic National Convention in Denver wasn’t quite ready to start.
As Michelle Obama took to the stage Monday morning, daughter Sasha, 7, picked up the gavel and pounded it on the podium and grinned.
Michelle Obama is scheduled to close out the first day of the convention Monday night. Hours earlier, while the delegates were huddling in the nearby convention center, she stood on stage while convention organizers checked out the lighting and walked her through the process.
Behind her, a high-tech display was illuminated with waving flags, scenes of Colorado landscapes, and blue – lots of blue.
As a group of reporters and photographers huddled below, Ms. Obama found herself fielding some sometimes unusual questions. Such as, from a reporter from one of the largest daily newspapers in Sweden:
“What do you think of Swedish women?”
