NewWest.Net is looking for someone to lead our editorial charge. We think it’s pretty close to a dream job for anyone who cares about the West and is interested in the power of online media to change the way we tell stories and interact with our communities.

If you’re interested in being the next editor of NewWest.Net, here is some food for thought.

This opening is an incredible opportunity to be a visionary for the “next phase” of an online news venture that is widely respected as a cutting-edge project in the online journalism scene.

The editor of NewWest.Net provides the guiding vision of the online magazine. He or she sets the tone and voice of the site and works closely with the CEO in developing innovative strategies to bring thoughtful news to the Rocky Mountain West. He or she manages editorial staff as well as works with freelance writers and community contributors. The editor is also responsible for marketing content and to serving as an ambassador to the communities we cover. Most importantly, the editor serves as the chief strategist on the editorial side and is in charge of driving innovation in how NewWest.Net tells the stories of the Rocky Mountain Region.

The candidate should be equipped with the energy and enthusiasm needed to help run a grassroots online media startup. He or she must also be ready to roll with the ever-changing demands of the medium and interested in being a part of scheming new ways to use the Web to tell better stories. Most of all, the candidate should be knowledgeable and passionate about the issues facing the growing and changing Rocky Mountain region.

I still look in about twice a week, mostly out of habit, but since Jonathan left, the publication seems to be getting more lethargic with every issue. Who ever you get, I hope they have a bit more enthusiasm.

The NY times recently admitted that there will come a time when it will no longer be printed, so the future for News/Mags is the internet. Scan the Best Ideas in Lifestyle, Gadget, Political, Economic, Gossip, Art/Style Net/Print News/Mags and steal from them to create a sustainable Regional News Mag from the east slope of the Cascades and Sierras to the east slope of the Rockies from the Mexican Border to the Canadian Border. This is not Rocket Science.
