Poll Shows Obama Beating McCain in Montana
By Courtney Lowery, 7-03-08
Sen. Barack Obama is leading Sen. John McCain by five percentage points, gaining ground with younger voters in Montana, according to a new poll from Rasmussen Reports.
Forty-eight percent of voters polled by telephone said they would vote for Obama while 43 percent said they would vote for McCain. The last time Rasmussen polled Montana voters, in April, it was just the opposite. McCain was leading with 48 percent to Obama’s 43 percent.
The poll shows Obama is most popular with voters under the age of 30, where he has a 27-point lead. McCain was more popular than Obama with voters older than 50.
Party loyalty is strong for both candidates, with 89 percent of Democrats going for Obama and 85 percent of Republicans going for McCain.
Montana is traditionally a red state and hasn’t voted for a Democratic president since Bill Clinton in 1992 and even then, Clinton only got 38 percent of the vote.
Obama has been ramping up his presence in Montana in an effort to capture battleground states like Montana that normally go Republican (read about McCain and Obama’s plays for the West in the Wall Street Journal today). He just released a second TV ad in the state and will be in the state Tomorrow to do more campaigning—his third trip to Big Sky Country.
Other topics in the poll included off-shore drilling (66 percent of Montana voters in favor) Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s approval rating (64 percent say he’s doing a good job), President George Bush’s approval rating (48 percent say he’s doing a bad job) and the Iraq war (50 percent say it’s more important to bring troops home.)

Thank you for pointing out that Obama doesn’t support my right to “Bare Arms.” I’m shocked! Why would Obama care about my bare arms? Frankly I enjoy having my arms bare in the summertime.
Now I could understand Obama not supporting me having bare arms in the winter—it’s just common sense in Montana to cover up. But why does he want to take away my rights to bare arms year-round? It just doesn’t seem right!!
And I’m sure this “bare arms” move is just the first step in Obama’s insidious plan. First he’ll take away our rights to bare arms, and next he’ll take away our bear spray! But I say no way! The only way they’re getting my bear spray is to pry my cold dead fingers (attached to my bare arms) from the bear spray canister.
What’s next—take away my Bayer Aspirin?
When will this homonymicidal nonsense stop??
Barely coherent,

LET OBAMA TAKE YOUR WEAPONS AWAY. LOUISIANA ALREADY HAD IT HAPPEN:

Again, when you are talking about people who have invested the time and money to pursue those kinds of educations, put themselves through that kind of personal pain and sacrifice to earn those degrees from those schools, and built those types of credentials and resumes; then the capability to earn very big salaries is a given. What bothers me is that there are so many, not all but many, of the children coming out of the working class families across the West, the farming families, the ranching families, the small town middle class, who just won't ask anywhere near as much from themselves. These kids are coming out of backgrounds not that different from the Obamas; but, unlike the Obamas, they won't put in the same effort; they won't bust their rears to get into good schools; when they do, they often major in something less than demanding and then spend their spare time and money on beer ...or worse; and then they get out with no real credentials and whine about being abused because they can't make big money as loggers, miners, overgrazing ranch inheritors, or out on the rigs as oil field trash. It's just so hard to get some of them to invest the effort in sowing anything more ambitious than weeds; but, just like clockwork, they're sure energetic enough when it comes to complaining about what they reap.
Obama made his money from his bestselling books, perhaps because his ideas are popular with most Americans. You might want to read one of them so you can find out a little about your next president.
