RAT CREEK FIRE UPDATE
Thursday, August 30, 2007 3:30 PM
Fire Information: (406) 689-3915 , www.inciweb.org, or www.fs.fed.us/r1/b-d/
Special Update
The Rat Creek Fire is burning actively today (Thursday) resulting in a smoke column easily visible from Wisdom, MT and surrounding areas. The fire is moving east as terrain driven winds and low relative humidity cause the fire in Tie Creek and Maybee Meadows to burn together. Firefighters began a burn out around the Northfork Ranch to remove fuel between the fire and the fireline around 3:00 p.m.
The Wisdom Volunteer Fire Department is assisting firefighters in protecting the private property. Helicopters and air tankers are operating in an area behind the ranch in an effort to slow the fire’s progress.
A progress update will be distributed as soon as more information becomes available.
Editor’s note: As part of our fire coverage, NewWest.Net is posting here the email updates and press releases we get directly from fire camps as we get them. These do not replace our ongoing full coverage of the fires at www.newwest.net/fire, but supplement the information you get throughout the day with the updates we get throughout the day. We aim to give you all the information we get and here it is in its “unfiltered” form. For full stories, check back often at www.newwest.net/fire and continue to look for these updates from fire camps in the link box on the right-hand side of the page.
