Murder Suspect Collared in Texas
Rock Springs Manhunt Over
By Gil Brady, 8-21-07
JACKSON, Wyo.—A fugitive wanted for the alleged strangulation and rape of a Rock Springs motel worker was captured in the Texas Panhandle Monday afternoon, some 786 miles from the scene of the crime.
Kerrie Sullivan, 25, was found dead at about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Economy Guest Village Motel in Rock Springs. Police have said that Sullivan’s body was discovered in a room that had been registered to Dawayne K. Myers, 23.
Sgt. Clark Robinson of the Rock Springs Police Department said Myers had been arrested Monday in Pampa, Tex., about 55 miles northeast of Amarillo, around 1:50 p.m. Wyoming time.
It is believed Myers fled to the area because he has family in nearby Oklahoma.
As previously reported by the Associated Press, Myers’ relatives cooperated with police to track his whereabouts via e-mail. Sullivan’s silver car was also reportedly found in Pampa.
Robinson said a preliminary police investigation indicated that the suspect had lived in many different places “around the United States.”
Detectives say Myers had been in Rock Springs for only a few days before the murder—arriving on a bus after traveling around the country and had planned on working as a bouncer at the Windy City Saloon.
