Update
Rocky Mountain News Will Shut Down Friday
By Courtney Lowery, 2-26-09
It's a sad day for Western news: Tomorrow, the Rocky Mountain News will publish for the last time.
E.W. Scripps Co. made the announcement today. Scripps had put the Rocky up for sale in December. No buyers came forward, and at the end of 2008, the Rocky posted a $16 million loss for the year.
You can read the story from the Rocky itself here. Don't miss the comment thread building below it.
According to a Denver Business Journal story, the Denver Post says it will hire some of its former competitor's editor and columnists, including Vincent Carroll, Dave Krieger, Tina Griego, Bill Johnson, Mike Littwin and Penny Parker.
Denver Newspaper Agency CEO Harry Whipple offers a Q&A on the closing here on the Post Web site.

Best yet was its publication in a tabloid format instead of those infernal "broadsheets" that are infuriating to read. Fold, punch, wrestle, scrunch - and then the top falls over anyway. ARRGH!
Twas' a great newspaper and its demise is a tremendous loss not only to Colorado, but the entire Intermountain West as well.
It shall be missed.
