It finally hauled off and snowed
Skiing Starts Thursday at Boise’s Bogus Basin
By Jill Kuraitis, 12-15-09
Thursday at 10 a.m. the first skiers and snowboarders will be screaming down the runs at beloved local ski resort Bogus Basin, and Boise snowboarders, skiers, snow retailers, resort employees and pretty much everybody else is smiling. The annual transformation to ski-town is here.
Tuesday’s storm dropped enough snow on the mountain to add up to nearly 30 inches at the base and 32 at the summit, and the resort announced a Thursday opening.
Bogus Basin has several groups and programs going on, and it’s the time to join up and get organized. Details for all the listings can be found on the Bogus website.
Bogus Basin Ski Club (age 21 and older) meets regularly for “yurt days” on the mountain, apres-ski parties and travel to other areas throughout the Pacific Northwest.
PrimeTimers (ages 50+) meet on Wednesday afternoons to ski and apres-ski.
VertiGals (women only) meet on Wednesdays for alpine ski/board skiing and on Thursdays for nordic skiing.
Junior High and High School Ski and Snowboard Race programs are offered through Treasure Valley ski and snowboard clubs. Saturday races and the annual Dotty Clark final championships provide opportunities for local kids to learn how to race gates and compete for medals and bragging rights. Races start in January.
Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation (formerly the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance) offers competitive race programs for skiers ages 6 and older who want to compete in alpine ski racing and freestyle skiing. BBSRA operates independently and separately from Bogus Basin Mountain. Contact BBSRA at 336-5295 or their website www.bbsef.org
Bogus Basin Nordic Team (BBNT) is a non-profit nordic ski team focused on young athletes ages 10-19, and one of the fastest growing programs at Bogus Basin.
