New Sounds in Town

SnowGhost Productions Presents Brightblack Morning Light

There's a new production company in town, and they hope to change music as we know it in Whitefish. SnowGhost Productions, the brainchild of Whitefish music enthusiasts Dave Gawe and Brett Allen, is geared toward producing and promoting new music and fresh sounds. SnowGhost is working on a ten concert series that'll unroll this summer. Its first band, Matador-signed Brightblack Morning Light, will play tonight at Grouse Mountain Lodge.

Brightblack Morning Light is a duo made up of Nathan Shineywater and Rachel Hughes, two rural Alabamans who transplanted to California. Their first album, ali.cali.tucky is filled with sweet harmonies and 'cosmic country noir'. From the sound of things, Brightblack Morning Light will be an easy intro to the SnowGhost concert series for Whitefish concert-goers; an astro-hillbilly, psychadelic sound will fit right in here in a town where the jam band sound still lives on and edgier, New York/L.A./Wherever post-punk sounds haven't had much of a presence.

But SnowGhost doesn't plan on fitting right in with the historical Whitefish sound. They'll be bringing in all kinds of bands covering all kinds of genres: rock, folk, hip hop, indie and electronica. Dave Gawe's goal is to make Whitefish a music destination name heard 'round the country, and they may just succeed. In addition to their band promotion, they're gearing up a recording studio for promising bands and musicians who are ready to make the step (more on that later).

Catch Brightblack Morning Light tonight at 7:30, at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. Tickets are $12 at the door and the show is all ages. Bring your ID if you want to grab a drink.
