Utah’s Economy Still Chugging Along
By Tracy Medley, 5-01-07
The Salt Lake Tribune reports today that Utah’s economy is still chugging along, despite the current downswing throughout the rest of the nation. The Trib sites an account issued by Creighton University; a monthly survey which compiles statements from corporate purchasing managers across the county indicating economic growth or decline.
Utah’s good fortune could be attributed to its still, if not booming then steady housing market. Unlike the rest of the nation, Utah seems relatively immune to the bursting real estate bubble. According to the Creighton report, Utah saw no significant increase in loan delinquencies from subprime borrowers.
Our steady housing market isn’t the only good news – the report also suggests that Utah’s job growth rate is four times that of the rest of the U.s.
