A NewWest.Net/Missoula Event
Monday: Wired Magazine in Missoula
By Jonathan Weber , 11-04-07
Event Update: We are very sorry to report that Wired executive editor Bob Cohn, who was to have been our special guest at the event today, sustained a back injury yesterday and will not be able to come to Missoula. However, we are happy to say that Thomas Goetz, the deputy editor of Wired, will be coming in his place. Thomas has been with Wired since 2001, and before that worked at the Village Voice, the Wall St. Journal, and the Industry Standard. While we are disappointed that Bob cannot be here - and Bob feels terribly about it - Thomas is similarly articulate and insightful and will be able to speak to the same set of issues. We hope you'll join us for what promises to be a fascinating conversation about Wired, technology, the Internet and the evolution of the media business.
Wired in Missoula takes place Monday, Nov. 5 at 4:00 p.m. at the Missoula Art Museum, and will be followed by a beer and wine networking reception. Admission is $10, or free if you sign up for our new NewWest.Net/Missoula paid membership program. We're very pleased to have Pyron Technologies as a co-sponsor for the event. We hope you can join us, please call 406-829-1725 or email jonathan@newwest.net with any questions or to reserve your spot!

Also, does Wired plan to write for women eventually? If not, do they think there is a niche for a tech zine for women?
Brining Wired to Missoula is a tremendous opportunity to learn more about innovative technology. Thank you NewWest!
(I regretfully can't attend or I'd ask these questions myself)
Also, I have to agree with Jnet that Wired is very male-focused. I've gotten a free subscription a few times through my Salon membership; however, I've let it run out and once even canceled the magazine because I was so disgusted by the cheese blatantly aimed at male readers.
OTOH, I'm equally turned off by the female-focused tech blogs that are overly preoccupied with "pink" and "cute."
So to speak.
Also cannot attend -- but perhaps you folks could pursue this line of inquiry for us?
They do, however, have some great online blogs that delve much deeper into niche topics.
Sadly, I don't -- but many do!
& yes, I love their science blog.
I am also very gadget-happy.
And not pink technology. Or, at the very least, not *only* pink technology. Which I suspect has a closet (or not) male following.
So, yoo-hoo!
I really worry that my children won't be safe at events like this Wired event; what with all the drugs, orgies, and no adult supervision. Please keep your kids away from these ruffiant dancing hippies.
Also, both my wife and daughter read the mag - at first mocking me and rolling their eyes, but now more for themselves.
And I have no idea what on earth "concerned mother" is talking about!
